Of all of our milestones celebrated, having 600 jerky bags submitted for review to date is what makes us most proud. People may be surprised how relatively easy it is to get jerky makers to send you jerky for review. When I first started these jerky reviews in 2014, I wondered what it would be like to have a jerky centric mailbox. Now I know it’s pretty cool, but sometimes it can be a fair amount of work.
I have corresponded with hundreds of jerky makers over the years. Living in Canada presents a challenge with jerky submissions. There are perhaps 50 jerky makers that had agreed to send their jerky over the years, but for whatever reason, the jerky submissions never materialized.
During this COVID-19 lockdown, the border between Canada and the USA is closed for travel. Good thing that I am not due for a jerky run to New York for quite some time. At least jerky submissions are still making it over the border from the USA. For instance, Australia is currently being banned by the government of Canada on sending us a jerky submission due to COVID-19.
The Jerky Shrine is starting to mature after debuting in January 2019. One wall was dedicated to jerky paraphernalia, where corkboard has been attached to the entire wall. Perhaps coming later this year is a new corkboard. Jerky Shrine Corkboards #1 and #2 are getting pretty full. The Jerky Shrine closet is starting to evolve. You never know what to expect with each jerky maker submission.
