The next review on Clean Jerky Co. will focus on a 3 ounce/85 gram bag of Korean BBQ flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as having only three ingredients. The bag was purchased online from Amazon.
Ingredient Review
Beef, Soy Sauce (Water, Soybeans, Wheat, Salt, Sodium Benzoate, Salt), White Sugar, Brown Sugar, Sesame Oil, Garlic Puree (Garlic, Citric Acid), Granulated Garlic, Granulated Onion, Ground Black Pepper, Hickory Smoke (Water, Smoke Flavor), Ginger, Chives, Sesame Seeds. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat, Sesame
The beef brisket used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
The liquid marinade consists of an average brand of soy sauce, super healthy sesame oil, and liquid hickory smoke.
Some healthy ingredients added are garlic, granulated garlic, granulated onion, black pepper, ginger, chives, and sesame seeds.
The sugar level is very high at 10 grams per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 5 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky for a sweet based flavor as we have here. The salt level is decent at 270mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite added. Admirably, there is no MSG added.
Decent (7/10) – Ingredient Rating
Taste Review
CLEAN JERKY CO. – KOREAN BBQ BEEF BRISKET JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell the Korean BBQ flavor, and nothing else. The jerky is large in size and cut to a medium thickness. The jerky is soft and chewy, leaving an oily residue on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky, I am met with a medium level of salt, primarily sweetness from the Korean BBQ flavor, and a decent level of pepper, along with slight garlic. You can really taste the Korean BBQ, which is coming through in spades. It is actually a decent flavor, except it’s too sweet for my particular taste buds. A decent flavor, but not a barn burning flavor. This review is reading like an 8/10, and I believe that is what I will rate it as. Gentlemen?
Here is what Mark had to say about this Korean BBQ beef jerky flavor from Clean Jerky Co.: “Thanks Paul for the candid taste review. I somewhat agree with Paul. This flavor indeed comes across as tasting authentic Korean barbecue. I like Paul do not much care for sweet tasting jerky, but the sweetness aspect is a non-factor because Korean barbecue by nature is a sweet tasting flavor, which is the case here. One minor complaint is that the quality of soy flavor is on the average side, where a well respected gluten free soy sauce would have shone more deeply to introduce a rich pineapple tasting aspect.”
“This brisket cut of beef has no hint whatsoever of tasting processed. While the sesame flavor is detectable, adding more sesame oil and/or sesame seeds could have taken this Korean barbecue flavor to the next level, which is an underrated ingredient in Korean barbecue flavors. I could also say the same thing about the garlic and ginger levels, which should be at high to moderate levels to give it a Korean barbecue flavor and an Asian flair. While this Korean barbecue flavor tastes very good, it lacks a ‘wow’ factor. A unanimous Good (8/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
Three 3 ounce/85 gram bags of jerky sold online for $14.99, which equates to $5.00 an ounce. That rates as an expensive price.
Bag Review
This plastic resealable bag has everything imprinted both on the front and back. The Clean Jerky Co. logo has a cow displaying all the cuts of beef, and cleverly, the transparent window is the same shape.
A slogan printed on this bag could be “Who Doesn’t Want Their Jerky CLEAN”. Some facts printed are “Beef – Soy Sauce – Sugar – Sesame Oil – Garlic – Onion – Peppers – Ginger – Chives, Sesame Seeds…& That’s it. No bulls**t”. “No MSG”, “No Sucralose”, “No Binders or Fillers”, “No High Fructose Syrup”, “Solid Steak Strips”, “Hand Crafted”, “10 Protein – 100 Calories”, “Made in the USA”, and “No Artificial Colors or Flavor”.
There are no missing bag categories. A great blurb about this jerky is printed on the back. A QR code is displayed to scan and save on your next purchase. A QR code is displayed to scan and save on your next purchase. To Clean Jerky Co. credit, an email address is provided for customer inquiries.
