$6,000 Jerky Submitted

It took eleven years to review $6,000 worth of submitted jerky. A huge thank you to all the jerky makers who have submitted their jerky for review (166 Jerky Brands [June 11/2025 – 165] and 775 Jerky Bags [June 11/2025 – 774]). The single biggest complaint about jerky is the high price. Of course, the best way to get around the expensive price of jerky is to make your own homemade jerky. However, even homemade jerky is not all that cheap, where the cost of beef is at or close to an all time high. Keep in mind the meat loses 50 – 75% of its weight due to moisture evaporating during the drying process. That’s the simple fact, and it gives jerky such a long shelf life.

Since we took it upon ourselves in 2017 to start tracking jerky prices, the price of jerky has remained relatively consistent from 2016 to 2021. The beef jerky prices have steadily increased in 2022, 2023, and 2024 at somewhat shocking levels. We shall see the prices of jerky in 2025, which will be performed next month in July, where I see no reason for the continued increase of jerky prices.

While our preference is to have jerky submitted for review, we are not averse to purchasing jerky. The first six months of this jerky review website back in 2014 were done solely on purchased bags to document my jerky bag collection. Living in Canada has certainly presented challenges, where not all jerky makers are willing to send their jerky over the border. If we lived in the USA, the jerky maker content in this jerky review website would look far different than what it is today.

Often, a jerky maker with a bad ingredient list would never submit their jerky for review. Why would these jerky makers submit jerky for review? So that we can slam their ingredient list in the ingredient review, albeit the vast majority of people only care about the taste. A poor bag design should never prevent a jerky maker from submitting their jerky for review, where who cares about the bag anyway.

People may be surprised to discover how willing jerky makers are to submit their jerky in exchange for a review. It is generally a win-win situation for a jerky maker to submit bags of jerky for review, where we get another jerky bag to review, and the jerky maker gets publicity.

The figure of $6,000 worth of jerky reviewed is misleading. The actual figure would be much higher, where the $6,000 only includes unique bags of jerky reviewed. If, for example, a jerky maker submits or we purchase two 3 oz bags of the same flavor, then that only counts as one 3 oz bag. If, for example, a jerky maker sends us one 3 oz bag and one 1 oz bag of the same flavor, that does count as two bags reviewed. There needs to be something unique about the bag, whether the bag size is different, the bag design has changed, or the jerky has been reformulated.

We are proud of offering great exposure and allowing every jerky brand known to the market and community in this probably now 4.4 Billion Dollars annual sales dried meats industry. The jerky sector has a broad presence on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Generally, jerky makers with high social media activity have good to great tasting jerky.
