Wenzel’s Farm has proudly carried the tradition of sausage making from Germany to Wisconsin for over a century, preserving its rich heritage since the company’s founding in 1949. Nestled in the heart of Wisconsin’s dairyland, Wenzel’s Farm remains true to its roots, still operating on the original farmland where the brand began. Known for its commitment to quality and craftsmanship, the company specializes in premium, handcrafted, small-batch meat snacks and products.
Celebrated for its excellence, Wenzel’s Farm has earned numerous accolades from esteemed organizations like the American Association of Meat Processors and the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors. Their naturally hardwood-smoked products are packed with protein and crafted to deliver exceptional flavor, making Wenzel’s Farm a trusted name in high-quality meat snacks. This Wenzel’s Farm jerky brand is distributed under the name of Wenzel’s Farm, LLC, located in Marshfield, Wisconsin. This jerky is manufactured by Glenwood Snacks, LLC., and is located in Saint Anthony, Idaho, likely making this a stock recipe.
The next review on Wenzel’s Farm will focus on a 3 ounce/85 gram bag of Teriyaki flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as having the perfect combination of sweet and salty, being naturally smoked, gluten free, and containing no artificial flavors, colors, nitrates, or MSG. The bag was purchased online from Amazon.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Brown Sugar, Water, Tamari Soy Sauce (Water, Soybeans, Salt, Alcohol), Less Than 2% of: Apple Cider Vinegar, Natural Flavors, Honey, Salt, Pineapple Juice Concentrate. Allergen Warnings: Soy
The beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
The liquid marinade is comprised of water, a well-respected brand of tamari soy sauce, super healthy apple cider vinegar, healthy honey, and healthy pineapple juice concentrate.
The vague term natural flavors is listed, which can contain healthy and unhealthy ingredients.
The sugar level is sky high at 13 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 5 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky for a sweet based flavor, as we have here. The salt level is acceptable at 290mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky qualifies to have no sodium nitrite or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservative used is salt. Admirably, there is no MSG added.
Decent (7/10) – Ingredient Rating
Taste Review
WENZEL’S FARM – TERIYAKI BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell the teriyaki immediately. The pieces are medium in size and they are sliced to a medium thickness. The jerky is dry enough and rigid enough to pacify our forefathers. There is no oily residue left on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky, I taste salt at a decent level, along with sweetness, which is a little too intense but well within reason. I also taste pepper, also at a respectable level, along with mild garlic and onion.
While this flavor of jerky tastes decent and tastes like teriyaki, there is no “Wow!” factor at all. It is writing as a 7/10, which is what I will be rewarding it with. Gentlemen?
Here is what Mark had to say about this Teriyaki beef jerky flavor from Wenzel’s Farm: “Thanks Paul for the honest taste review. I agree with most things stated. True in that this jerky is sweet tasting, arguably too sweet tasting, but we have to give that a pass because teriyaki flavors are supposed to be sweet tasting. I also agree that this flavor comes across as a no doubter tasting teriyaki flavor. What I disagree with is that there is no ‘wow’ factor. The tamari gluten-free soy sauce has an awesome, familiar flavor. It has a much richer flavor compared to your average soy sauce containing wheat.”
“What sets this teriyaki flavor over the top is the addition of pineapple juice, especially when paired with this high quality tamari soy sauce. That gives this teriyaki flavor a sort of Asian flair. One complaint I have is that the natural beef flavor contains a slight processed taste. There is a mild smoked flavor in the background that accentuates the whole flavor. Overall, I am quite impressed with this authentic tasting teriyaki flavor, where Paul historically frowns on teriyaki flavors. With Paul at a 7 and myself at a 9, a Good (8/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
Three 3 ounce/85 gram bags of jerky sold online for $19.99, which equates to $2.22 an ounce. That rates as a cheap price.
Bag Review
This plastic resealable bag has everything imprinted on the bag, both the front and back. There is a high resolution picture of jerky, pineapples, and tamari soy sauce on a cutting board on the front. The Wenzel’s Farm logo has a farm and silo in the background.
A slogan printed on this bag is “Real Meat For Real Life”. Some facts printed are “Naturally Smoked”, 10g Protein”, “90 Calories”, “13g Carbs”, Made in the USA”, “No MSG Added”, and “Gluten Free”.
There are no missing bag categories. A great blurb about Wenzel’s Farm is printed on the back.
