The sugar level is sky high at 13 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 3 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is high at 530mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does not qualify to have no sodium nitrite, as sodium nitrite is used outright as a preservative to lose a rating. Admirably, there is no MSG added.

Taste Review
WENZEL’S FARM – PEPPERED BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell natural beef, and not much else. The jerky is medium in size and thickness. It is relatively dry and chewy, close to what our forefathers intended. There is no oily residue left on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky, I taste both salt and sweet at the same level, which is noticeable but by no means intense. I also taste garlic, also at a mild level, natural beef, and the peppered taste is definitely there, but it is not as intense as I would have thought. Not one flavor jumps out at me. It mostly tastes like an original flavor, not really a peppered flavor, simply because I find that the peppered flavor could (and should) be more prominent. Let’s put it this way: I wish the peppered flavor were more intense, but it isn’t. This review is writing like a 7 or 8/10, but I believe it is closer to an 8 than a 7, so an 8/10 it is. Gentlemen?
Here is what Mark had to say about this Peppered beef jerky flavor from Wenzel’s Farm: “Thanks Paul for the candid taste review. I pretty much agree with everything stated. I too would have liked to see the black pepper a little bit stronger, but that point is arguable. The sweetness is a bit high for my liking and, in my opinion, unnecessary. Part of the sweetness includes a light, fruity flavor, which I appreciate. I would term the garlic as light tasting instead of being at a mild level.”
“The beef has no hint of tasting processed. In the background, there is a faint level of smoke present. The overall taste profile is fairly simple. This peppered flavor tasted good, but I cannot say that there was any ‘wow’ factor. A unanimous Good (8/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
Three 3 ounce/85 gram bags of jerky sold online for $19.99, which equates to $2.22 an ounce. That rates as a cheap price.
Bag Review
This plastic resealable bag has everything imprinted on the bag, both the front and back. There is a high resolution picture of jerky, peppercorns, and black pepper on a cutting board on the front. The Wenzel’s Farm logo has a farm and silo in the background.
A slogan printed on this bag is “Real Meat For Real Life”. Some facts printed are “Naturally Smoked”, 10g Protein”, “90 Calories”, “14g Carbs”, Made in the USA”, “No MSG”, and “Gluten Free”.
There are no missing bag categories. A great blurb about Wenzel’s Farm is printed on the back.
