While this milestone took over 6 1/2 years to accomplish, we have now reviewed $2,000 worth of jerky purchased out of our pocket. We are not exactly proud of this accomplishment but have no regrets. Ideally, all jerky reviewed would be submitted. Most of the jerky reviewed in the last six years has been submitted by jerky makers. These purchases included are from 2008 to – present on either jerky reviewed or just displayed in a jerky review.
Especially with the larger jerky brands out there, we have no qualms purchasing a bag of jerky for review. In many cases, it would not be fair to ask the jerky maker if they are interested in submitting their jerky for review only for us to trash their ingredient list. In fairness, the majority of jerky makers have cleaned up their ingredient lists considerably over the last decade.
This jerky review web site started with one goal of documenting my jerky bag collection to date (around 550 jerky bags in 2014), where there were no live taste reviews and done on purchased jerky only. Six months into the summer of 2014, I finally conceded and started doing live taste reviews on submitted (non-purchased) jerky. All along the way, we have been consistently sprinkling in purchased jerky bags for a wider variety of jerky reviews.
