While it took a little over seven years, we have now published 900 jerky reviews to date. We generally publish two reviews a week and, therefore, around 100 reviews a year. 2020 was a challenging year for everyone, and our jerky reviews were no different. Typically, we visit the USA twice a year to pick up jerky. We made one trip in January 2020, where I came home with about 50 jerky bags. Little did we know the USA/Canada border would remain closed since March 2020 with no end in sight. Thankfully, enough jerky makers came through with submissions to keep us going.
In April 2020, I contacted many jerky makers to see how COVID-19 was affecting their business. Some jerky makers experienced an uptick in business. Many jerky makers had either already gone out of business or put their business on hold temporarily until the price of beef went down. For a while there, the price of beef had more than doubled. 2021 will continue to be a challenge for us until the USA/Canada border is reopened. We have enough jerky inventory to last a couple of more months. In 2020, I took a new approach in publishing these jerky reviews. Rather than mainly focus on jerky submissions, I sprinkled in some purchased jerky brands. In previous years, I would focus so much on jerky submissions that often by the time we reviewed the purchased jerky, and it would be near its expiry date. This practice will continue in 2021 and beyond.

The Jerky Shrine is progressing nicely. Perhaps the Jerky Shrine is growing at a slower rate than expected, but again there is no hurry whatsoever. We tend to get a lot of repeat business among jerky makers. You never really know what to expect in a jerky submission delivery, where I get surprised time and time again. I never had any idea on how much fun it would be to become a curator for the Jerky Shrine, which I take a great deal of pride in, and has been well-received.
