The chickens used are raised in the USA. There are no guarantees that the chicken used is not administered growth hormones or additional antibiotics. The chickens used are not guaranteed to have free range access to roam about. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
The liquid marinade used here contains a fair brand of soy sauce and an average brand of mango habanero sauce.
Some healthy ingredients added are jalapeno peppers, habanero pepper powder, garlic, and onion.
The sugar level is somewhat high at 6 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 4 grams of sugar or less for a spicy based flavor. The salt level is acceptable at 280mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.
The artificial color fd&c yellow no 5 is used in the mango habanero sauce to lose a rating.
This jerky does not qualify to be sodium nitrite free, as sodium nitrite is used outright as a preservative to lose a rating. Admirably, this jerky qualifies to have no MSG added.

SIERRA MADRE PROVISIONS CO. – MANGO HABANERO CHICKEN JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell next to nothing. The pieces are mostly medium in size and medium in thickness. The hue of the jerky is lighter than usual, possibly because it’s chicken jerky and not beef jerky, not entirely sure. The jerky is slightly moist, leaving an oily residue on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky I encounter salt, at a fair level, sweet, a bit too sweet for my liking, and pepper, and I detect the heat from the habanero. None of the flavors are overpowering, they all seem to complement each other. This is a favorable tasting jerky. As I stated earlier, my only issue is the sweetness. It is more prevalent than I would like, but livable. A well-deserved 9//10 in my opinion.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Mango Habanero chicken jerky flavor from Sierra Madre Provision Co. “Thanks Paul for the forthright taste review. I may argue that this Mango Habanero flavor is not too sweet for a hot based flavor like the one we have here. The sweetness offsets the heat from the habanero peppers, but it is too sweet for my liking also. The heat contains that familiar burn you get with Habanero peppers, but well within reason. This Mango Habanero flavor would rate 2 or 3 out of 5 on a heat scale.”
“A minor complaint is that the taste of mango is not prominent. There is a fruity flavor present that somewhat resembles the taste of mango. The sugar dulls the natural chicken flavor. I agree with Paul that the taste profile is well-balanced, the sweetness notwithstanding. With Paul at a 9 and myself at an 8, a Very Good (9/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 3 ounce/85 gram bag sells online for $6.99, which works out to $2.33 an ounce. That rates as an average price. Free shipping is offered on orders over $49.99.

Bag Review
This is a relatively tall, resealable bag. The front is gold, and the back is silver, with nothing on the back. A label is affixed to the front, but nothing is on the back. The scenic picture on this bag depicts mountains, including a few California palm trees.
There are no slogans or facts printed on this bag.
Some missing bag categories are a blurb about Sierra Madre Provision Co. and no soy and wheat allergen warnings. Kudos to Sierra Madre Provision Co., where they provide a toll-free phone number for customer inquiries.
