JOJO’S JERKY – HAWAIIAN PEPPER GRASS FED BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell pepper and natural beef. The strips are large and sliced paper thin. The jerky is very dry and almost crunchy, a texture that very much appeals to me. There is no oily residue left on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky, I taste salt at a decent level and sweetness at a mild level. The pepper is coming through quite strongly. I am very much enjoying it. I don’t necessarily taste anything “Hawaiian” about this jerky, but it is very, very tasty. I am thoroughly enjoying this flavor and am willing to rate this jerky as a 9/10. Gentlemen?
Here is what Mark had to say about this Hawaiian Pepper grass-fed beef jerky flavor from JoJo’s Jerky: “Thanks Paul for the candid taste review. I generally agree with most things Paul stated. In my opinion, this jerky does qualify to have a borderline crispy texture. I do not agree with Paul that the peppered level comes quite strongly. For me, it is a mild level, or at least not strong enough to justify having ‘Pepper’ in the flavor name, but I can see somebody arguing that point.”
“The teriyaki aspect comes across better than the peppered aspect in my opinion. Again, I could see somebody arguing that point. Admittedly, there is no Asian flair, using ingredients such as sesame, pineapple juice, mirin/sake, or ginger. Paul and I both appreciate that the sweetness does not go overboard. If this flavor were named ‘Original’, both Paul and I would be at a solid 10 taste rating. The natural grass-fed beef flavor tastes excellent. This jerky is addictive as heck and tastes like more. With Paul at a 9 and myself at an 8.5, a Very Good (9/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 2 ounce/56 gram bag was purchased for $11.99, which works out to $6.00 an ounce. That rates as an expensive price.
Very Good (9/10) – Taste Rating
Bag Review
This clear, resealable plastic bag has a label affixed to the front and nothing on the back. However, the label is cleverly double sided with this transparent bag. The JoJo’s Jerky logo depicts a bull with a nose ring, mustache, and a hat with a flower on it.
There are no slogans printed on this bag. Some facts printed are “Smoke Flavor Added”, “Las Vegas, Nevada”, “Proudly Made in the USA”, and “Made with Lots of Love”.
The only minor missing bag category is the jerky weight not stated in grams. On the back, there is an excellent blurb about JoJo’s Jerky. You are encouraged to follow JoJo’s Jerky on Facebook with their @jojosjerky handle.
