The next review on Savage Jerky Co. will focus on a 3 ounce/85 gram bag of their Sweet Sriracha BBQ flavored beef jerky. This bag was graciously submitted for review by the Savage Jerky Co. team.
The Savage Jerky Co. brand name was launched in 2014 by the founders, husband and wife Brad and Michelle Summey. They are based out of Suwannee, Georgia. Recently, they entered their jerky flavors in the World Hot Sauce, BBQ and Extreme Food Awards competition. They did very well with two second place finishes, two first place finishes, and overall winner of the jerky division. Going forward, we should be rightfully calling this award winning beef jerky.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Tomato Sauce, Water, Brown Sugar, Molasses, Sriracha Sauce (Ground Red Chili Peppers, Water, Sugar, Ground Garlic, Salt, Contains 2% or less of: Garlic Powder, Cultured Dextrose [For Freshness], Vegetable Extract [Potato], Natural Flavor, Vinegar, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum), Garlic, Mustard Seed, Honey, Vinegar, Salt, Onion, Mustard Powder, Worcestershire Sauce (Distilled White Vinegar, Molasses, Sugar, Water, Salt, Onions, Anchovies, Garlic, Cloves, Tamarind Extract, Natural Flavorings, Chili Pepper Extract), Lime Juice, Spices, Natural Smoke Flavor Allergen Warnings: Anchovies
The liquid marinade is comprised of tomato sauce, water, sriracha sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and lime juice. Not one of these liquids uses a bad ingredient list.
There are some interesting ingredients used such as mustard seed and mustard powder. Mustard in general has many healthy properties. Honey is another good choice provided that it’s something such as local honey. Most honey in large brand names are devoid of pollen, and almost cannot be called honey anymore.
The sugar level is very respectable at 3 grams of sugar used per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is very low at just 160mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.
Kudos to Savage Jerky Co. for having no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservative. Instead, the main preservative used is just salt. The sauces have vinegar, which acts as a preservative also, to a lesser extent. Admirably, there is no MSG added.

Taste Review
These strips of jerky are small to medium in size. They are sliced to a medium, almost thin thickness. There is a great dry texture that is surprisingly easy to chew, where it almost melts in your mouth. There are no visible signs of fat, and handling this jerky leaves no oily residue on your fingers.
The first taste detected is a good level of tomato flavor. Then a mild sweetness set in. The sriracha sauce used tastes great, and is only mildly spicy at best.
There is a mild lime flavor mixed in, and a light garlic level. There is some tang from the vinegar, and the natural beef flavor is only at a mild level because this flavor is so bold tasting. Overall, a very interesting blend of flavors.
This 3 ounce/85 gram bag sells online for $7.99. That works out to 2.66 an ounce, which rates as an expensive price. For people who enjoy a tomato based barbecue flavor, this jerky is a great buy.

Bag Review
This is a standard sized resealable bag. Everything is imprinted directly on the bag on the front, and the back, with one exception. The ingredient list is a professionally affixed label.
The Savage Jerky Co. logo is a silhouette of a bearded man (savage). Their slogans are “Hand-Crafted”, “Small Batch”, and “Eat like a savage”.
The only minor bag category missing is the jerky weight not being stated in grams. The bag incorrectly states that there is a soy allergen, when there is not. There should be an allergen alert for the anchovies though. On the back, there is a great blurb printed about Savage Jerky Co., and how Brad and Michelle started their own jerky company.
