Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Brown Sugar, Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt), Hot Sauce (Aded Cayenne Red Peppers, Vinegar, Water, Salt, Garlic Powder), Worcestershire Sauce (Distilled White Vinegar, Molasses, Sugar, Water, Salt, Onions, Anchovies, Garlic, Cloves, Tamarind Extract, Natural Flavorings, Chili Pepper Extract), Jalapeno Powder, Sodium Nitrite.    Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat, Anchovies

Tasty Dead Cow - Mild Jalapeno Beef JerkyThe beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.

The liquid marinade consists of a decent soy sauce, a well-respected brand of Worcestershire sauce, and another well-respected hot sauce.

The only healthy ingredient added is Jalapeno powder.

The sugar level is high at 5 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 4 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky for a hot based flavor, as we have here. The salt level is acceptable at 300mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.

This jerky does not qualify to have no sodium nitrite as sodium nitrate is used outright as a preservative to lose a rating. Admirably, this flavor does qualify to have no MSG added.

Alright (6/10) – Ingredient Rating

Taste Review

TASTY DEAD COW – MILD JALAPENO BEEF JERKY

Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker

When I open the bag I actually can smell the jalapeño. Not much else though. The pieces vary in size but are mostly sliced thin. The jerky is not soft, but not hard either. Somewhere in between the way our forefathers intended and the more modern way of making the jerky softer and easier to chew. I prefer the more traditional “old-fashioned” jerky if you will, but this jerky is at least attempting to be that.

The first flavors that jump out at me are salt, pepper, and garlic. The sweetness is evident, but not too much, which is a good thing. I also taste a ketchuppy kind of flavor, but I am not sure why. It is not advertised as such. The jalapeño flavor is unfortunately, in my estimation, too mild, almost non-existent. Maybe as I consume more, the jalapeño flavor will kick in, or kick up is perhaps a better term.

Overall, I am enjoying this jerky. However, it is not quite the flavor I was expecting. The jalapeño has not kicked up yet, leaving me no choice but to deduct a point for the lack of a kick. This review is reading like an 8/10, and I’m afraid I can award no higher in good conscience. Therefore, gentlemen, an 8/10 it is.

The Tasty Dead Cow – Mild Jalapeño Beef Jerky Review. I read its name, and I must admit, I was not expecting much from this jerky, and boy, was I wrong. This jerky is tasty and awesome. It is flavorful and it hits all the right notes in my humble opinion. The aroma and texture are equally pleasant, as they nicely add to the overall experience.

I appreciate how this jerky focuses on flavors. The beefy taste and Jalapeño are at the forefront, followed by tons of wonderful flavors in the background. This little gem is mild\lightly spicy, as indicated in the title, and comes together in a deliciously harmonious fashion. The flavor profile is balanced with all the right flavors, which are respectfully present in the background. I can only find good things and no concerns whatsoever. This jerky is addictive as heck. I am in love, and I can’t recommend this tasty treat enough.

The Tasty Dead Cow – Mild Jalapeño Beef Jerky is a Homerun and an easy 10\10 Taste Rating. Godspeed!

Here is what Mark had to say about this Mild Jalapeno beef jerky flavor from Tasty Dead Cow: “Thanks Paul and Stéphane for the diverging taste reviews. It is safe to say that I am in between. True that there is not much heat present, but in fairness, the flavor name is Mild Jalapeno. Lacking is the unique, natural Jalapeno pepper flavor.”

“While I cannot say with 100% certainty, I am fairly sure that brisket as the cut of beef used, which tends to have a softer texture and absorbs the marinade well. As with Stéphane, I too enjoyed the overall taste profile. About using the brand name Tasty Dead Cow. My experience is that most consumers do have a great sense of humor with these things, where I think Pepper Palace should have been the brand name. With Paul at an 8, Stéphane at a 10, and myself at a 9 rating, a Very Good (9/10) taste rating will be awarded.”

This 2.75 ounce/78 gram bag of jerky sells for $14.99, which equates to $5.45 an ounce. That rates as a very expensive price.

Very Good (9/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

This black resealable plastic bag has a label affixed to the front and nothing on the back. The Tasty Dead Cow logo depicts a cow with a daisy in its mouth.

A slogan printed on this bag is “Try some and you’ll want mmmooore!” Some facts printed on this bag are “USA Made”, “USA Beef”, and “The Planet’s #1 Hot Shop”.

Some missing bag categories are the jerky weight stated in grams and a blurb about Dead Tasty Cow or this flavor. To the credit of Dead Tasty Cow, a toll-free phone number is provided for customer inquiries.
