Bubba MoSho Jerky is a family-owned business specializing in handcrafted beef jerky made from 100% USDA-certified beef. Their products are marinated in small batches and processed at an SQF Level 3 facility, the highest certification from the Safe Quality Food Institute, ensuring top-notch quality and safety. Customers have praised Bubba MoSho Jerky for its exceptional taste and quality.
The origins of Bubba MoSho Jerky trace back to the late 1970s near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where George Mosho, a U.S. Marine and engineer, began experimenting with beef jerky as a hobby. This passion was passed down to his son, David, who added his own twist to the flavors and marinating techniques. During the pandemic, David revived this family tradition, sharing the jerky with coworkers and gym members in North Charleston, South Carolina. The overwhelmingly positive response led to the official launch of Bubba MoSho Jerky in late 2022. By March 2023, their products were featured at the Historic Charleston City Market, bringing their small-batch artisanal jerky to a wider audience. This Bubba MoSho Jerky brand is distributed under the same name of Bubba MoSho Jerky, and it is located in Charleston, South Carolina.
The first review on Bubba MoSho Jerky will focus on a 2.5 ounce/71 gram bag of their Sweet Heat Teriyaki flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as using tender slices of 100% domestic beef marinated in a sweet blend of teriyaki and complimentary seasonings with a tiny hint of heat. The jerky was kindly submitted for review by Owner David Mosho.

The beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
The liquid marinade used here is comprised of a well-respected brand of Worcestershire sauce, two types of teriyaki sauce, healthy maple syrup, and liquid smoke.
The only healthy ingredient added is spices.
The sugar level is very high at 10 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 5 grams of sugar or less for a sweet based flavor as we have here. The salt level is a little high at 370mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservative used is salt. Admirably, there is no MSG added.

BUBBA MOSHO JERKY – SWEET HEAT TERIYAKI BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell soy and/or vinegar. The pieces are medium to large in size, and they are sliced rather thin. The jerky is semi-rigid, not as rigid as our forefathers intended, but not too soft either. The jerky is a bit moist, enough to leave an oily residue on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky I am met with salt, at a decent level, sweet, which is characteristic of most teriyaki flavors, but not overboard, well within reason. I also taste pepper, to a lesser degree, yet still quite noticeable, and possibly light garlic and onion in the background. The heat mentioned in the flavor is also coming through nicely, very noticeable, but not too intense.
Overall, it is a very well-balanced, flavorful, tasty treat, hitting all the right notes on my palette. I was expecting to be inundated with intense sweetness, as most teriyaki flavors tend to do, but not in this case.
Since it is living up to its advertised description, and I can find no noticeable faults, I am duly inclined to rate this flavor of jerky a 10/10.
Again, teriyaki is not typically my cup of tea, but I am rating it on both flavor and accuracy to its description, and it hits on both notes, so my ruling is my ruling.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Sweet Heat Teriyaki beef jerky flavor from Bubba MoSho Jerky: “Thanks Paul for the positive taste review. I wholeheartedly agree that this flavor lives up to its flavor name. It is very true that sweetness is present but does not go overboard. Some heat is present, more than a tiny hint as advertised on some strips but well within reason. Lastly, the teriyaki flavor has many of the hallmarks of a classic teriyaki flavor.”
“The soy flavor takes on a pineapple sort of taste even though pineapple is not a listed ingredient. The sesame seeds are more of an afterthought lightly spread out, where my bias would have loved to see a little bit of sesame oil added. Continuing with my biases, I would like to see the garlic and onion amped up a bit more, but they are at acceptable levels. Like Paul, I agree that the salt and pepper are at solid levels.”
“I found this jerky to be very addictive, which I could seemingly consume all day long. The taste profile is very well-balanced and tastes delicious. With Paul at a very rare 10 rating for a teriyaki based flavor and myself, with my biases aside, also at a 10 rating, a unanimous Excellent (10/10) taste rating will be awarded. A very enthusiastic two thumbs up!!👍👍”
This 2.5 ounce/71 gram bag of jerky sells online for $8.00. That works out to $2.80 an ounce, which rates as a cheap price.

A slogan could be “Charleston’s Favorite Beef Jerky”. The only fact printed on this bag is “Low Country Approved”.
