The next review on Savage Jerky Co. will focus on a 3 ounce/85 gram bag of their sriracha teriyaki flavored beef jerky. This bag was kindly submitted for review by the Savage Jerky Co. team.
The Savage Jerky Co. brand name was launched in 2014 by the founders, husband and wife Brad and Michelle Summey. They are located in Suwannee, Georgia. On July 17/2015, this sriracha teriyaki beef jerky flavor received an award for best overall jerky flavor in the World Hot Sauce, BBQ and Extreme Food Awards competition for the jerky division. In only one year of being in business, Savage Jerky Co. can already boast that they have over 10,000 unique customers. Quite the feat in such a short period, and a testament to the quality of their jerky.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Honey, Sriracha Sauce (Ground Red Chili Peppers, Water, Sugar, Ground Garlic, Salt, Contains 2% or less of: Garlic Powder, Cultured Dextrose [For Freshness], Vegetable Extract [Potato], Natural Flavor, Vinegar, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum), Whole Grain Mustard, Garlic, Gluten Free Soy Sauce (Water, Soybeans, Salt, Rice), Worcestershire Sauce (Distilled White Vinegar, Molasses, Sugar, Water, Salt, Onions, Anchovies, Garlic, Cloves, Tamarind Extract, Natural Flavorings, Chili Pepper Extract), Lime Juice, Natural Smoke Flavor, Cilantro, Onion, Water, Red Wine Vinegar. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Anchovies
The liquid marinade is comprised of honey, sriracha sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lime juice, water, and healthy red wine vinegar. Both of the sauces used have good ingredient lists. Honey is a good choice provided that it’s something such as local honey. Most honey in large brand names are devoid of pollen, and almost cannot be called honey anymore.
There are some other good ingredients added such as very healthy cilantro and onion.
The sugar level is a bit high at 6 grams of sugar used per 28 grams of jerky. Our preference for a sweet based flavor such as teriyaki is to have 5 grams of sugar or under. The salt level is quite reasonable at 240mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.
Kudos to Savage Jerky Co. for having no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservative. Instead, the main preservative used is salt. Admirably, there is no MSG added.

Taste Review
These strips of jerky are small to medium in size, and sliced to a medium thickness. They have a great dry texture that is generally easy to chew. While not certain, this jerky reminds me of the brisket cut of beef. Brisket is believed to absorb marinades better than any other cut of beef. There are no visible signs of fat, and handling this jerky leaves no oily residue on your fingers.
It does not take long whatsoever for the spiciness to kick in. The heat level is advertised as 2 out of 4 on the heat scale, where we concur. Even the smell alone from the sriracha sauce smells excellent. A teriyaki based flavor is normally sweet, but here it is only mildly sweet tasting. As a result, the natural beef flavor stands out more.
The Worcestershire Sauce is detected at a light level. As for a teriyaki flavor, it is not all that defined, where the spiciness is really the dominant flavor. Regardless, this jerky tasted absolutely great, and the bag was finished in no time.
This 3 ounce/85 gram bag sells online for $7.99. That works out to 2.66 an ounce, which rates as an expensive price. This jerky is wholeheartedly recommended as worth your money for people who enjoy a fairly spicy sriracha flavor, with a mild teriyaki flavor.

Bag Review
This is a standard sized resealable bag. Everything is imprinted directly on the bag on the front, and the back, with one exception. The ingredient list is a professionally affixed label.
The Savage Jerky Co. logo is a silhouette of a bearded man (savage). Their slogans are “Hand-Crafted”, “Small Batch”, and “Eat like a savage”.
The only bag categories missing are the jerky weight not being stated in grams and no allergen alert for the anchovies. On the back, there is a great blurb printed about Savage Jerky Co., and how Brad and Michelle started their own jerky company.
