Friday, June 20, 2025 Leave a Comment

Field Trip - Carne Asada Grass-Fed Beef JerkyField Trip is a jerky brand that specializes in crafting high-quality, artisanal jerky and other meat snacks. Founded in 2010 by Tom Donigan, Matt Levey, and Scott Fiesinger, Field Trip aims to provide consumers with delicious, convenient, and healthy snack options made from premium ingredients. The company takes pride in sourcing only the finest cuts of meat, which are then carefully seasoned and marinated to create flavorful jerky products.

Field Trip is also committed to using natural ingredients and avoiding artificial additives and preservatives whenever possible. This commitment to quality and transparency has helped the brand gain a loyal following among health-conscious consumers who appreciate the company’s dedication to creating delicious and nutritious snacks. In addition to jerky, Field Trip has expanded its product line to include other meat-based snacks, such as meat sticks and bites, providing customers with even more options to satisfy their cravings for protein-packed snacks on the go. This Field Trip brand is distributed by Provisionaire & Co LLC, and it is located in Westport, Connecticut.

The next review on Field Trip will focus on a 2.2 ounce/62 gram bag of their Carne Asada flavored grass fed beef jerky. This flavor is described as tasting like a Southern California style street taco. The bag was purchased at a 7-Eleven store in Niagara Falls, New York.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Grass Fed Beef, Brown Sugar, Gluten Free Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce (Water, Soybeans, Salt, Alcohol), Orange Juice, Carne Asada Seasoning (Dehydrated Vegetables (Garlic, Onion, Green Bell Pepper), Spices, Salt, Citric Acid, Natural Flavors, and Rice Concentrate), Water, Apple Cider Vinegar, Lime Juice.    Allergen Warnings: Soy

Field Trip - Carne Asada Grass-Fed Beef Jerky100% grass-fed beef is used here, just the way nature intended. These cattle are raised ethically, meaning they are not fed growth hormones or additional antibiotics. There is also some free range access for the cattle to roam about. As a result, the ingredient rating starts at Excellent (10/10).

Field Trip - Carne Asada Grass-Fed Beef JerkyThe liquid marinade is comprised of a brand of gluten free reduced sodium soy sauce, healthy orange juice, water, super healthy apple cider vinegar, and healthy lime juice.

Some healthy ingredients added are garlic powder, onion powder, green bell pepper powder, and spices. The vague term natural flavors is a listed ingredient, which can contain both healthy and unhealthy ingredients.

The sugar level is very high at 9 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 3 grams of sugar or less. The salt level is a little high at 390mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.

As advertised, this jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservative used is salt. Admirably, there is no MSG added.

Taste Review

FIELD TRIP – CARNE ASADA GRASS-FED BEEF JERKY

Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker

When I open the bag I smell some kind of lemon-pepper spice. Nothing much else really. The strips of jerky are medium in size, and they are sliced to a medium thickness. The pieces lack rigidity but are not too soft. There is no oily residue left on your fingers.

When I bite into the jerky I taste salt, at a reasonable level, a bit too much sweet, at least for my liking, pepper, at a reasonable level, along with the lemon, or whatever it really is, flavor. Not much garlic or onion, at least my taste buds did not pick up much, if any, of either.

Overall, the flavor is decent, but it does not blow me away, it is a bit too sweet for my liking, so a 7/10 is my assessment.

Here is what Mark had to say about this Carne Asada grass-fed beef jerky flavor from Field Trip: “Thanks Paul for the honest taste review. A Carne Ssada recipe with Mexican roots is complex. It has a general staple of ingredients, including orange juice, lime juice to a lesser extent, garlic, onion, soy sauce, and something to give it a light spiciness. There are other variations also. The orange juice here is noticeable, as is the lime juice. I agree with Paul that the garlic and onion flavors do not come across well, which is unfortunate. The soy flavor blends in well at a mild level.”

“I also agree with Paul that the sweetness level is too high. It’s not overly sweet, but the sweetness does distract from the natural grass-fed beef flavor. I will add that there is no hint of the natural beef flavor tasting processed. A faint spiciness is present, which I am surprised that Paul did not mention. The spiciness would not rate higher than a 1 out of 5 on the heat scale. The overall taste profile is fairly well balanced except for the annoying sugary type of sweetness, but I still found this jerky enjoyable. With Paul at a 7 and myself at an 8, a Good (8/10) taste rating will be awarded.”

This 2.2 ounce/62 gram bag was purchased for $8.95, which works out to $4.07 an ounce. That rates as an expensive price.

Bag Review

This resealable plastic bag has everything imprinted on it, both on the front and back. No labels are affixed to this bag. There is a clever picture of a cow with palm trees, mountains, and sun in the background. A high resolution picture of jerky is printed on the front.

Some slogans printed on this bag could be “Tasty & Tender”, “Amazingly Delicious”, and “Get Out There”. Some facts printed on this bag are “Korean BBQ Recipe”, “90 Calories”, “10g Protein”, “1.5g Fat”, “All Natural”, “Made With 100% Grass Fed Beef”, “High Protein”, “No Preservatives”, “No MSG Added”, “No Nitrates”, “Minimally Processed”, “No Artificial Ingredients”, and “American Crafted Best Taste Guaranteed”. You are encouraged to try their other jerky flavors.

The only bag category missing is a transparent window to view the jerky. On the back, there is a great blurb about Field Trip and this Carne Asada flavor. Admirably, a phone number and email address are provided for customer inquiries. You are encouraged to follow Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, with their @fieldtripsnacks handle.
