BeefCake Jerky Co. is a bold and rapidly growing brand founded by Andrew Flair on May 1st, 2023. The brand aimed to introduce a thick and tender cut jerky that is naturally smoked, similar to what can be made at home, to the market. When developing their jerky, they noticed only a few brands sold pork jerky. So, they conducted in-house research and development and developed what they believe is the best quality and flavors of pork and beef jerky on the market.
Since launching over years ago, they have produced eight jerky flavors. Every new flavor of jerky they release on their website sells out within hours, sometimes even minutes, due to the loyal consumer base they have formed around BeefCake Jerky Co. They have sold over a million bags of beef and pork jerky on their website, and they are available in over 500 convenience and grocery stores across the US. What sets them apart from other jerky companies is their Pork Jerky and bold flavors! This BeefCake Jerky Co. brand is distributed under the same name as BeefCake Jerky Co., and it is located in Omaha, Nebraska.
The next review on BeefCake Jerky Co. will focus on a 2.7 ounce/77 gram bag of their Teriyaki flavored pork jerky. This flavor will change the way you think about jerky being the most tender and flavorful. The jerky was graciously submitted for review by Customer Support/Influencer Outreach, Dustin Hunt.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Pork, Water, Brown Sugar, Contains 2% or Less of the Following: Salt, Soy Sauce Powder (Soy Sauce [Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt]), Natural Flavorings, Natural Spices, Cultured Celery Powder. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat
The pork used is guaranteed to be raised ethically with no antibiotics and no added hormones. This pork is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to roam about outside. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.
The liquid marinade used here is comprised of just water, and the soy sauce is in powdered form.
The only healthy ingredients added are natural spices. The vague term natural flavorings is listed, which can contain healthy and unhealthy ingredients.
The sugar is high at 7 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 5 grams of sugar or under for a sweet based flavor, as we have here. The salt level is high at 560mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservative used is salt and cultured celery powder to a lesser extent. Admirably, there is no MSG added.
Decent (7/10) – Ingredient Rating
Taste Review
BEEFCAKE JERKY CO. – TERIYAKI PORK JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell absolutely nothing whatsoever. The pieces vary in size, ranging from small to large. It is dry and somewhat rigid, leaving no oily residue on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky, I taste very mild salt, medium sweetness, well within reason, minimal pepper and garlic. I must honestly say that I’m not picking up much of the teriyaki flavor. It is mildly teriyaki-ish, but I FIND this particular flavor to be predominantly non-descript. I am not saying that I do not like this flavor, it is just that it lacks any real descriptive flavor. This review is writing as a 7/10, which is exactly where I think it belongs.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Teriyaki pork jerky flavor from BeefCake Jerky Co.: “Thanks Paul for the honest taste review. As advertised, these pork strips are tender and easy to chew. I too found the teriyaki aspect to not come across all that well. There are no components of an Asian flair, such as sesame, pineapple juice, mirin/sake, or ginger, other than the soy sauce. Describing the flavor as being non-descript is too harsh in my opinion. The taste itself is pleasant, and the focus is on the natural pork flavor.”
“The overall taste profile is well-balanced, with no single taste standing out. As Paul noted, the sweetness is within reason. While this jerky is an enjoyable snack, there is no ‘wow’ factor present. With Paul at a 7 and myself at an 8, a Good (8/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 2.7 ounce/77 gram bag of pork jerky sells online for $8.99. That works out to $3.33 an ounce, which rates as an average price.
Bag Review
This black, resealable plastic bag has everything imprinted on the ga, both on the front and the back. The logo of the BeefCake Jerky Co. has a bull’s head. There is an illustration of a pig on the back.
Some slogans printed could be “Real Jerky For Real Men” and “No Bullsh*t”. Some facts printed are “Premium Jerky”, “10g Protein”, “100 Calories”, “No Nitrates or Nitrites Added”.
The only missing bag category is the distributor address details. A QR code is displayed on the back. You are encouraged to follow BeefCake Jerky Co. on Instagram and Facebook. A small but good blurb about this jerky is printed on the back.
