BeefCake Jerky Co. is a bold and rapidly growing brand founded by Andrew Flair on May 1st, 2023. The brand aimed to introduce a thick and tender cut jerky that is naturally smoked, similar to what can be made at home, to the market. When developing their jerky, they noticed only a few brands sold pork jerky. So, they conducted in-house research and development and developed what they believe is the best quality and flavors of pork and beef jerky on the market.
Since launching years ago, they have produced eight jerky flavors. Every new flavor of jerky they release on their website sells out within hours, sometimes even minutes, due to the loyal consumer base they have formed around BeefCake Jerky Co. They have sold over a million bags of beef and pork jerky on their website, and they are available in over 500 convenience and grocery stores across the US. What sets them apart from other jerky companies is their Pork Jerky and bold flavors! This BeefCake Jerky Co. brand is distributed under the same name as BeefCake Jerky Co., and it is located in Omaha, Nebraska.
The next review on BeefCake Jerky Co. will focus on a 2.7 ounce/77 gram bag of their Smokehouse BBQ flavored pork jerky. This flavor will change the way you think about jerky, being the most tender and flavorful. The jerky was graciously submitted for review by Customer Support/Influencer Outreach, Dustin Hunt.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Pork, Water, Brown Sugar, Contains 2% or Less of the Following: Salt, Natural Flavorings, Natural Spices, Cultured Celery Powder. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat
The pork used is guaranteed to be raised ethically with no antibiotics and no added hormones. This pork is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to roam about outside. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.
The liquid marinade used here is comprised of just water.
The only healthy ingredients added are natural spices. The vague term natural flavorings is listed, which can contain healthy and unhealthy ingredients.
The sugar is a little high at 6 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 5 grams of sugar or under for a sweet based flavor, as we have here. The salt level is high at 470mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservatives used are salt and cultured celery powder to a lesser extent. Admirably, there is no MSG added.
Decent (7/10) – Ingredient Rating
Taste Review
BEEFCAKE JERKY CO. – SMOKEHOUSE BBQ PORK JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell nothing. The jerky is medium to large in size, and it is soft and chewy. Not how our forefathers intended. The hue of the jerky is lighter than usual, and there is no oily residue left on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky I am met with decent salt, too much sweet, mediocre pepper, mild garlic, as well as the BBQ flavor, it is rather prevalent. The pork tastes processed, it tastes like mass-produced jerky. I am not really enjoying this flavor very much, it is too much processed and too sweet for my liking. This tastes like run-of-the-mill jerky. I can go no higher than a 6.5 or a 7/10, not impressed.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Smokehouse BBQ pork jerky flavor from BeefCake Jerky Co.: “Thanks Paul for the candid taste review. There is some truth in that this pork has a somewhat processed tasting aspect. I found the sweetness to be at an almost acceptable level for a barbecue based flavor, perhaps a little too sweet. The BBQ flavor aspect comes across fairly well, where Paul has never been a fan of BBQ based flavors.”
“As advertised, this pork is tender, being easy to chew. There is an interesting mix of spices used to achieve the barbecue flavor. The overall taste profile is fairly well-balanced with no single flavor standing out. I can’t say that I picked up on the smoked flavor and there is no ‘wow’ factor. With Paul at a 7 and myself at an 8, a Good (8/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 2.7 ounce/77 gram bag of pork jerky sells online for $8.99. That works out to $3.33 an ounce, which rates as an average price.
Bag Review
This black, resealable plastic bag has everything imprinted on the bag, both on the front and the back. The logo of the BeefCake Jerky Co. has a bull’s head. There is an illustration of a pig on the back.
Some slogans printed could be “Real Jerky For Real Men” and “No Bullsh*t”. Some facts printed are “Premium Jerky”, “9g Protein”, and “100 Calories”.
The only missing bag category is the distributor address details. A QR code is displayed on the back. You are encouraged to follow BeefCake Jerky Co. on Instagram and Facebook. A small but good blurb about this jerky is printed on the back.
