In this unprecedented 2020, the jerky industry is no exception in getting hit with COVID-19. Plenty of jerky/biltong makers have gone out of business in 2020. One could argue that the jerky industry was oversaturated anyway. Many jerky/biltong makers put their business on hold until the price of beef normalized. Several months ago, the price of beef doubled or more. Some jerky/biltong makers took the financial hit and absorbed the extra costs, while other jerky/biltong makers jacked up their prices. Thankfully lately, the price of beef has normalized somewhat. Beef could still be 25% more expensive compared to 2019.
As part of our annual commitment to update the cheap, average, and expensive prices in the jerky industry, we introduce our fourth yearly 2020 jerky price ranges update.

Jerky Reviews Published To Date: 1136 (July 24/2020 – 848)
For the most part, jerky price ranges are established on the median price rather than the mean price. We now have over 800 jerky reviews published to date, with plenty of jerky bags to analyze and study inside a MySQL database. 106 jerky reviews have been published within the last 12 months since we last updated the jerky price ranges, which is what this latest 2020 jerky price update is based on.
In the last three jerky price range posts, the price of jerky had surprisingly remained flat. Well, 2020, again, surprisingly, is no different. For two consecutive years, the median price of beef jerky is $2.66 per ounce of jerky, which is smack dab in the middle of our Average beef jerky price range of $2.41 – $2.90. Much of that is attributed to a jerky run to New York back in January 2020, where we came home with quite a bit of jerky inventory. The 2021 price range update could be exciting.
Here is a summary of what has changed since August 08/2019 to July 25/2020. None of the jerky price ranges have changed this year.
