Better Bovine started the company because they love jerky but had difficulty finding any that weren’t full of sugar and additives, leathery, and made with low quality beef. They wanted to ‘go against the grain’ of everything they saw being done in the industry, and they’re very excited to have you try it. Their beef is sourced from sustainable farmers who raise wagyu cattle on open green pastures.
Better Bovine exclusively uses the high-quality cut flank steak with no marinades or additives. At Better Bovine, they believe in using better ingredients and embracing simplicity. They’re all beef. No bull. This Better Bovine jerky brand name is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and is distributed under the same name as Better Bovine.
The first review for Better Bovine will focus on a 0.88 ounce/25 gram bag of Salt & Pepper flavoured Wagyu grass-fed beef jerky. This flavour is described as a result of an unparalleled taste, tender mouthfeel, and distinct flavour profile that celebrates the meat itself. The jerky was kindly submitted by Co-founder Peter Hanna.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef Flank Steak, Salt, Pepper.
The beef used raised on local farms is certified Wagyu, which implies that the beef is guaranteed to use 100% grass-fed beef. As a result, the cattle are guaranteed to have free range access and be ethically raised. Therefore, the ingredient rating starts at an Excellent (10/10) rating.
There is no liquid marinade used here. Some people would call this old fashioned jerky or a jerky rub.
The only other ingredient added is healthy black pepper. Some people refer to black pepper as the king of spices.
The sugar level is perfect at 0 grams of sugar per 25 grams of sugar. The salt level is acceptable at 280mg of salt per 25 grams of jerky.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite added. Instead, salt is the only preservative. Commendably, there is no MSG added.

BETTER BOVINE – SALT & PEPPER WAGYU GRASSFED BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell beef, but almost like spiced beef. Like a steak, maybe. The pieces are medium in size and are sliced somewhat thin. The jerky is soft and easy to chew and tastes out of this world scrumptious.
I believe everyone should be educated on Wagyu beef, so with Google’s help, here it is. “Wagyu is a breed of Japanese cattle. The tender beef obtained from Wagyu cattle typically contains a high percentage of unsaturated fat. Wagyu, compared to Angus, has high marbling, which is why it is preferable when you want to enjoy the moist, tender, and delicious steak.”
And, dear consumers, it is exactly as advertised. I cannot remember ever eating any type of meat so succulent and addictive as this Wagyu beef. It is practically melting in my mouth. Not to mention the salt and pepper flavours coming through in spades. This is quite likely the most insanely tasty beef I have ever encountered. This, in my humble opinion, even tastes better than biltong, which is also ridiculously tasty. Traditional rating systems do not fully justify the unequaled flavour explosion I am experiencing.
Ladies and gentlemen, 10/10 does this jerky no justice. You must experience this jerky for yourself before you begin to fathom how tasty it is. Spoil yourself. Delay no longer. Trust me, and you will thank me profusely.
We’ve in the past given 10/10’s to drastically inferior jerky, so I’m not going to insult this jerky with a similar rating. Judge for yourself. A very enthusiastic two thumbs up!!👍👍

The Better Bovine – Wagyu Beef Jerky explodes with a deep meaty roast beef flavour. This jerky is a real gem! The flavour profile is simple and has such depth of flavour. These beautiful strips have tons of beefy flavour, a pleasant twist or three of freshly ground black pepper, and a rich buttery decadence. The outstanding roast beef aroma and flavour hits every note to a wonderful symphony of mesmerizing smell and taste.
Its gorgeous flavour profile, simplicity, and tremendous respect for the animal truly capture the essence of this beautiful and heartwarming experience.
Words can barely express or do justice to the flavour of The Better Bovine – Wagyu Beef Jerky or the uniqueness of this experience. This is a solid 10\10 Taste Rating. Godspeed!
Here is what Mark had to say about this Salt & Pepper beef jerky flavour from Better Bovine: “Thanks Stéphane and Paul for the enthusiastic, glowing taste reviews. I am in total agreement. With only salt and pepper used, this will be our easiest taste review to date, only to judge the salt and pepper levels, plus the beef itself. The ratio of black pepper to salt is arguably at a perfect level. Both are prominent tasting but in no way dominant, just a perfect compliment to the Wagyu beef. True what Paul mentioned about Wagyu beef in that it originated in Japan and is famous for its marbling, and perhaps the high price also.”
“The texture is fairly soft and tender being relatively easy to chew. One impressive feat is Better Bovine figured out a way to prevent the black pepper from falling off the strips, an age old problem with jerky. Somehow there is a film that acts like glue, where I do not recall a single speck of black pepper falling off.”
“I am glad that Stéphane used the word buttery. Only in high quality grass-fed beef have we experienced a buttery aspect to the beef flavour, which is rare. While light tasting, this buttery aspect intensifies the wonderful natural Wagyu beef flavour. Gems such as Better Bovine is why we started this jerky review website. We unanimously award a slam dunk Excellent (10/10) taste rating. Take a bow Better Bovine.”
25 grams bags are not for sale. A 1.76 ounce/50 gram bag of beef jerky sells for $14.95. That works out to $8.50 an ounce, which rates as an expensive price.
