Alaska’s Best specializes in traditional smoked salmon jerky from wild Alaskan salmon caught in the region’s cold waters. Salmon is known for its nutrient-rich profile, the jerky is packed with Omega-3 fatty acids, making it a healthy snack option. Alaska’s Best uses an artisanal process to create their jerky, filleting each salmon by hand and smoking it slowly over cherry and alder wood for over 24 hours. This meticulous method produces a distinctive flavor and chewy texture unique to Alaska’s Best jerky.
They offer variations such as original and teriyaki salmon jerky, each providing a smoky, rich taste without added artificial ingredients. This Alaska’s Best jerky brand is distributed under the name Trapper’s Creek, Inc., located in Anchorage, Alaska.
The first review on Alaska’s Best will focus on a 1 ounce/28 gram bag of Peppered flavored salmon jerky. This flavor is described as being carefully seasoned and slow smoked over cherry and alder wood for over 24 hours. The bag was purchased at the Tahoe Mahogany Smoke store in South Lake Tahoe, California.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Wild King Salmon, Brown Sugar, Salt, Glucose Syrup Solids, Potassium Lactate, Spices, Garlic Powder, Natural Flavoring. Allergen Warnings: Contains Fish (Salmon). May Contain Bones.
Of any jerky, wild salmon might rank the healthiest of them all. Salmon is known to be very healthy, and it is especially loaded with the fatty acid Omega 3. As a result, the ingredient rating starts at an Excellent (10/10) rating.
There is no liquid marinade used here. Some refer to that as old fashioned jerky or a dry rub.
Some healthy ingredients added are spices and garlic powder. The vague term natural flavoring is listed, which can contain healthy and unhealthy ingredients.
The sugar level is on the low side at 2 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is sky high at 790mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite or other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservatives used are salt and potassium lactate to a lesser extent. Admirably, there is no MSG added.

Alaska’s Best – Peppered Salmon Jerky
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell fish, not overpowering but very noticeable. There is one piece, and it looks a lot like a piece of fish, salmon in particular. The piece is large and rather thick, and there is an ever so slight oily residue left on your fingers.
When I bite into the “jerky”, I taste the salt and pepper immediately, they are both at high levels, which is perfect. I don’t taste much else except possibly slight garlic. It also tastes like salmon, and it breaks apart just like salmon as well.
Full disclosure, I am NOT typically a fan of jerky not being beef, especially fish jerky, mushroom jerky, tofu jerky, etc, the “jerky” that is, to me, not supposed to be confused with ACTUAL jerky, but this particular make and model is very pleasing to the palette. I am thoroughly enjoying it, and it definitely tastes like “more”.
This jerky is attempting to change my view of what jerky is, or at least can be, and while I don’t believe my opinion will ever truly change, I have to acquiesce and say that no matter my bias, this “jerky” is d*mn tasty, and well deserving of a 10/10.

Alaska’s Best – King Salmon Peppered Jerky Review, where do you really start when there is so much to talk about and so much going on with this jerky.
This jerky is visually pleasing, the filets are neatly cut and beautifully displayed in its packaging. Most salmon jerky and the like are often chopped and formed, and this extra attention to detail is a clear sign of a top quality product.
I am impressed, and my mouth is already salivating like Niagara Falls. The flavor is awesome, and the delicate taste of salmon is perfectly accentuated with rich, freshly cracked black pepper. The salty sweetness is light, it brings out every nuance of this wonderful King Salmon. There is a clean taste, and the flavor profile is out of this world. The texture is above and beyond my imagination. It is delightful, rich, and decadent, adding so much flavor to this memorable experience.
This Alaska’s Best – King Salmon Peppered Jerky, is delightful, decadent, and breathtakingly delicious. This jerky is simple and yet sophisticated. The salmon is well respected in every way, and I want to move to Anchorage, Alaska.

Here is what Mark had to say about this Peppered salmon jerky flavor from Alaska’s Best: “Thanks Paul and Stéphane for the glowing taste reviews. As a disclaimer, I am not much of a fan of salmon. I only had one bite for this review, and I was blown away. The texture is top notch, and it felt close to chewing beef jerky. As with all fish jerky, it’s the aftertaste I can find unbearable, and salmon is the strongest. Much to my surprise, the overly fishy taste was not overwhelming.”
“The salt and cracked pepper are indeed at great levels. Thankfully, the sweetness is well within reason, allowing the natural flavor of salmon to shine. A slam dunk, unanimous Excellent (10/10) taste rating will be awarded. Take a bow Alaska’s Best, a very enthusiastic two thumbs up!!👍👍”
This 1 ounce/28 gram bag of jerky sells for $4.95. That rates as an expensive price.

Bag Review
This clear, non-resealable bag has labels affixed to the front and back. The Alaska’s Best logo has a salmon in front of a mountain backdrop.
A slogan printed on this bag is “Eat Like a Grizzly”. Some facts printed are “Ready To Eat”, “100% Wild”, “KSA Parve”, and “Made in the USA”.
The only missing bag category is a blurb about Alaska’s Best or this flavor.
