Shalhoob – Teriyaki Meat Stick

Monday, December 30, 2024 Leave a Comment

Shalhoob - Teriyaki Meat StickShalhoob Meat Company, established in 1973 by Jerry Shalhoob, is a family-owned and operated business renowned for providing premium quality meats and poultry. Over the years, the company has expanded its offerings to include a variety of products and services, such as their gourmet beef jerky, which is based on a three-generation-old family recipe. Their beef jerky is crafted from lean, tender slices of USDA-inspected top round steak, using an all-natural process without preservatives, nitrates, nitrites, or MSG.

Their commitment to quality and community has made Shalhoob Meat Company a staple in Santa Barbara for over five decades, continuing to evolve and adapt to the changing landscape while maintaining their family-owned roots. This Shalhoob brand is distributed under the name Shalhoob Meat Co., and it is located in Santa Barbara, California.

The first review on Shalhoob will focus on a 1.35 ounce/38 gram bag of Teriyaki flavored meat stick. This bag was purchased at a liquor store in Port Hueneme, California.

Shalhoob - Teriyaki Meat StickThe pork used is guaranteed to be raised ethically with no antibiotics or added hormones. This pork is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to roam outside. The beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.

Some healthy ingredients added are spice, onion powder, and garlic.

The artificial color red 3 is used in the collagen casing to lose a rating.

The nutrition facts table is unknown as this bag was accidentally tossed in the garbage. It was known that the salt level exceeded 350mg of salt to lose a rating.

This meat stick does not qualify to have no sodium nitrite as sodium nitrite is used outright as a preservative along with sodium erythorbate to lose a rating.

This meat stick does not qualify to have no MSG added as monosodium glutamate is used outright to lose a rating. The highly processed, cheap flavor enhancer hydrolyzed corn protein is used to lose another rating.

Taste Review

SHALHOOB – TERIYAKI MEAT STICK

Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker

When I bite open the casing, and I take a bite into the meat stick, I immediately taste salt at a decent level, sweet, also very manageable, pepper at a good level, and garlic, which is very noticeable. I love both the texture and the flavor out of this meat stick. It hits all of the possible flavor profiles of this jerky and adds some additional flavor components to it. I am very confident giving this particular flavor of meat stick a 10.

This 1.35 ounce/28 gram bag of jerky sells for $2.99. That equates to rates as $2.30 an ounce, which rates as an expensive price.

Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

This non-resealable plastic bag has everything imprinted on the front and nothing on the back. The Shalhoob logo has a bull’s head.

A slogan printed on this bag is “Santa Barbara Style”. Some facts printed are “Natural Wood Smoked” and “Made in USA”

The only missing bag category is a blurb about Shalhoob or this flavor.
