Taste Review
WENZEL’S FARM – ORIGINAL BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell only natural beef, and not much, if anything else. The strips are small to medium in size, and they are not soft but not rigid either. They are somewhere in between. There is no oily residue.
When I bite into the jerky I taste mild salt, too much sweet, and not much else. A rather bland taste. I believe I may also be tasting slightly fruity, maybe pineapple, but I am not quite sure. This, to me, is not really original, it’s closer to a ‘non-descript’ flavor. It doesn’t really taste like original, but it doesn’t taste like any flavor. I find it quite bland. I cannot, with a clear conscience, really endorse this flavor, and as Shania said, ‘That don’t impress me much’… I can go no higher than a 6/10, but this is writing more like a 5/10, which is my true take on this flavor.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Original beef jerky flavor from Wenzel’s Farm: “Thanks Paul for the candid taste review. Almost immediately, I pick up a processed beef flavor, which has a big brand taste. The sweetness is strong as Paul alluded to. Paul was right in that the lemon and apple juice concentrate has a light, fruity flavor. There is a faint smokiness in the background that fits in nicely.”
“Apart from that, not much else is going on with this original flavor. Paul described it well as being a ‘non-descript’ flavor. I probably slightly enjoyed the flavor more than Paul because of the light fruitiness in the background. I cannot say that it does not taste like a classic original flavor, but it does taste like a big brand original flavor with too much sweetness. With Paul at a 5 and myself at a 6, an Alright (6/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
Three 3 ounce/85 gram bags of jerky sold online for $19.99, which equates to $2.22 an ounce. That rates as a cheap price.
Bag Review
This plastic resealable bag has everything imprinted on the bag front and back. There is a high resolution picture of jerky, garlic, and onions on a cutting board on the front. The Wenzel’s Farm logo has a farm and silo in the background.
A slogan printed on this bag is “Real Meat For Real Life”. Some facts printed are “Naturally Smoked”, 10g Protein”, “90 Calories”, “14g Carbs”, Made in the USA”, “No MSG”, and “Gluten Free”,
There are no missing bag categories. A great blurb about Wenzel’s Farm is printed on the back.
