Kingmade Jerky – Buffalo Style Beef Jerky

Tuesday, April 12, 2016 Leave a Comment

Kingmade Jerky - Buffalo Style Beef JerkyThe next review on Kingmade Jerky will focus on a 2.25 ounce/63 gram bag of their Buffalo Style flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as having a mouthwatering brown-sugary, vinegary, cayenne-peppery Buffalo style sauce using flank steak, one of the more expensive cuts of beef used for jerky. The bag was kindly submitted for review by the president, Jeff King.

This Kingmade Jerky brand is distributed by Kingmade, and based out of McKinney, Texas. Jeff has been a caddy in the PGA and LPGA tours since 1998. Frustrated with jerky brands that left you wanting more, Jeff decided to make his own jerky. His jerky quickly became popular on the golf tours, where the demand warranted starting his own jerky brand. In August 2013, Jeff launched the Kingmade Jerky brand. It is common to see some of the top golfers in the world with a bag of Kingmade Jerky inside their golf bag, where you could say that Kingmade Jerky is the unofficial jerky brand of professional golf. The jerky is advertised to be very low in sugar and salt, which is true.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Hot Sauce (Cayenne Pepper, Vinegar, Water, Salt, Garlic Powder), Brown Sugar (Sugar, Cane Molasses), Water, Soy Sauce (Water, Soybeans, Salt, Wheat Flour, Potassium Sorbate),
Worcestershire Sauce (Distilled White Vinegar, Molasses, Corn Syrup, Water, Salt, Caramel Color, Garlic Powder, Sugar, Spices, Tamarind, Natural Flavor, Sulfiting Agent), Natural Smoke Flavoring, Minced Garlic (Garlic, Water, Citric Acid), Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Chili Powder, Black Pepper.    Allergen Warnings: Soy,
Wheat

Kingmade Jerky - Buffalo Style Beef JerkyThe flank steak used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.

Kingmade Jerky - Buffalo Style Beef JerkyThe liquid marinade consists of a healthy hot sauce, water, an alright soy sauce, and a decent Worcestershire sauce.

Kingmade Jerky - Buffalo Style Beef JerkyThere are healthy spices used such as garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Super healthy garlic from the allium family is used, which interestingly aids people differently depending on the individual body’s needs.

The sugar level is good at only 2 gram of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is very low at 160mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.

This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservative. Instead, salt is the main preservative used, and vinegar to a lesser extent. With further credit, there is no MSG added.

Good (8/10) – Ingredient Rating

Taste Review

These strips of jerky are mostly small in size, and sliced to a medium thickness. The texture is not overly dry, and is surprisingly easy to chew, where the jerky almost melts in your mouth. There are very little visible signs of fat, and handling this jerky leaves no oily residue on your fingers.

The most dominating taste is the vinegar, and a light to mild garlic level. There is little sweetness, which allows a good deal of the natural flank steak flavor. Both the soy and Worcestershire sauce levels are mild. The saltiness is at a light level.

This flavor is advertised to have a medium level of spiciness. A light level of heat would be a more accurate assessment, where that Buffalo Style spiciness is missing. There is small amount of kick from the cayenne pepper, just not enough though.

Ordering online you can purchase six 2.25 ounce/63 gram bags for $42.99. That works out to $3.18 an ounce, which rates as an expensive price. The price is cheaper if you order larger quantities. This jerky is recommended for people who want little spiciness, enjoy the taste of vinegar, and easy to chew jerky strips.

Decent (7/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

This is a standard sized resealable bag. Everything is imprinted directly on the bag, both on the front and the back. The front has a fantastic looking picture of a cow in hunting gear, which certainly makes this bag stand out.

Their slogan is “Premium Beef Jerky for a Better Class of Carnivore”. Some facts printed on this bag are “Flank Steak Beef Jerky”, “8g Protein Per Serving”, “No Nitrites Added”, “96% Fat Free”, “No MSG”, “1g Total Carbs Per Serving”, “Premium Beef”, “Smoke Flavor Added”, and “Jeff King is the Gentleman Behind the Jerky”. There is also a heat meter, described as “The Gentleman’s Guide to Jerky Flavor Intensity”.

All bag categories are covered with this bag. There is a great blurb printed on the bag describing this Buffalo Style flavor, and Kingmade Jerky.

Excellent (10/10) – Bag Rating
