Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Salt, Seasonings (Anchovies, Soya), Modified Corn Starch, Monosodium Glutamate, Chicken Fat, Dehydrated Onions and Garlic, Hydrolyzed Soy/Corn/Wheat Protein, Vegetable Oil Shortening, Dextrose, Mustard Seeds, Milk Proteins, Lactose, Tomato Powder, Beef Extract, Spices, Flavour, Disodium Inosinate and Guanylate, Colour, Polysorbate 80, Smoke Flavour. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Anchovies
The beef used from Alberta is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
The only liquid marinade used here is an unknown soy sauce brand.
Some healthy ingredients are added such as anchovies, dehydrated garlic, dehydrated onions, mustard seeds, spices, and tomato powder.
A rating is lost because the emulsifier polysorbate 80 is used that bind ingredients together. Polysorbate 80 is not considered to be healthy.
The sugar level is acceptable at around 3 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is high at around 480mg of salt per 28 grams to lose a rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 gram of jerky.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite, or any other unhealthy preservatives. Instead, salt is the main preservative used.
Unhealthy monosodium glutamate (MSG) is used outright to lose a rating. Another rating is lost using the unhealthy flavor enhancer disodium inosinate, which works in conjunction with MSG to enhance the flavor that much more. Furthermore, another rating is lost with the cheap, highly processed flavor enhancer hydrolyzed corn gluten protein being used.
Fair (4/10) – Ingredient Rating

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!
We’re all unanimous here; the East Coast Beef Jerky – Original Beef Jerky is God’s gift to women …No wait, that’s me!
Alrighty Now! The East Coast Beef Jerky – Original Beef Jerky is really God’s gift to Jerky aficionados.
What an awesome treat, just one whiff and we already knew we were in for a big treat. What more can we say about such a wonderful beef jerky? Well, here goes! This jerky treat speaks for itself loud and clear. We were delighted by their awesome and delectable blend of seasoning, a spectacular smorgasbord of great flavors topped with a sublime smokiness.
We are all enthusiastically head over heels over this jerky where this flavor is addictive as heck. The anchovy flavor appears to be a secret ingredient and knocks the flavor right out of the park. The saltiness, sweetness, garlic, onion and soy create a burst of flavor and propel this flavor profile to new heights unknown to mankind. The garlic and onion do complement the overall flavor profile beautifully and the mustard seed is simply genius on a flavor and texture standpoint. In fact, all of the ingredients are well balanced and build an impressive explosion of wonderful flavors and tastes.
The unmistakable and moderately accentuated smokiness is omnipresent in every bite. It really catches the attention from the very beginning till the end and all the way throughout the entire experience. The smokiness is paired with a good amount of natural beef flavor followed with a gentle spicy kick. All together, these elevate this jerky to a fun and exciting new experience and this is the real spice of life.
These strips are medium in size and sliced almost thick. The texture is dry and easy to chew, as long as you pace yourself. I know cause my jaw just couldn’t keep up and a couple of time, it started locking up on me. And that’s not a bad problem to have. : – ) These strips have a deep and darker appearance due to their generous marinade and it leaves a slight oily residue on the fingers.
We all found this flavor to be incredibly addictive. We actually had to hide our own bags from ourselves, as we could easily gorge ourselves on this jerky all day, every day and twice on Sundays.
Over the years, we’ve sampled over 1,100 different jerky flavors between all three of us and we all agreed this flavor has such a unique, delicious, and distinctive taste. It stands proudly on its own amongst the best of them.
Paul stated: “What an explosion of delectable flavors, it knocks it out of the park, complete with the Joey Bats bat flip. For an original flavor, East Coast Beef Jerky has outdone themselves, this flavor blows me away without a doubt. A definite 10/10”.
The East Coast Beef Jerky is a great Original flavor; it is packed with tons of flavor. We all agree this jerky could easily double-down as a fantastic Teriyaki flavor and still earn an Excellent 10/10 taste rating.
This jerky is versatile and it would be ideal as a tasty topping on salads, pizza and pancakes. This great option will certainly bring more excitement and creativity to many pizzas, sandwiches, grilled cheese, burgers, a sprinkle on a baked potato, poutine or omelets to name just a few. This will be absolutely delightful, as the possibilities are endless.
This amazing jerky is addictive as Hell. I was living large for a bit with my big bag of jerky (approximately twice the size of regular bags of jerky). The first night, I felt like a King and I was almost drunk on jerky. Then I ran out and my heart sank. I felt a general sadness and an empty feeling came over me. It was like losing a good friend and I haven’t felt the same since then. The next morning, I was glad to learn I wasn’t the alone. Mark and Paul shared the same feeling and went through the same dilemma.
In conclusion, East Coast Beef Jerky is a proud Canadian jerky maker and they are based in Sackville, New Brunswick. All these Easterners are well known for their warm hospitality, their “joie de vivre” and their great lobsters and now, they will also be known for their amazing beef jerky. Way to Go!
I sincerely believe this East Coast Beef Jerky – Original Beef Jerky promotes a healthy lifestyle. It is an extremely healthy option worth considering by everyone. I am already making plans to go camping, fishing and hunting, to go on road trips and sporting events. I am even planning some trips to Mount Kilimanjaro and any other excuses to enjoy this fabulous jerky more often.
Each of us gave the East Coast Beef Jerky – Original Beef Jerky an enthusiastic two thumbs, way up! We’ve awarded a really well-deserved Excellent (10/10) taste rating. Great Job Guys!
A 5.3 ounce/150 gram bag of jerky sells for around $12.00, which works out to $2.26 an ounce. That would rate as a cheap price.
