It is a generally accepted story that an ancient South American Inca tribe called the Quechua first made jerky (“ch’arki”) as early as the 1500’s. Halal Mummified Jerky blows that theory away, where it is well documented that jerky was made thousands of years ago by ancient Egyptians. Archaeologists made this discovery when they found dried foods preserved in tombs. Halal Mummified Jerky is 100% made in the USA, and their beef is certified to be halal by Halal Transactions of Omaha. Halal Mummified Jerky is advertised to have no added MSG, nitrite free, and the beef has no added hormones. Halal Mummified Jerky is distributed by Timeline Trading, and they are located in Bellevue, Washington.
The next review on Halal Mummified Jerky will be on a 2.5 ounce/70 gram bag of their Chariot Sriracha flavored halal beef jerky. This will be the second review on this Chariot Sriracha flavor, where the ingredients have been tweaked slightly. Halal means food that is allowed for consumption under Islamic dietary guidelines. The aim is for a Muslim to slaughter the animal, limiting the amount of pain the animal will endure. The jerky bag was kindly submitted for review by the owner Ahmed Kamel.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Natural Sriracha Sauce (Ground Red Chili Peppers, Water, Sugar, Ground Garlic, Salt, Contains 2% Or Less Of: Garlic Powder, Cultured Dextrose [For Freshness], Vegetable Extract [Potato], Natural Flavor, Vinegar, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum), Sugar, Honey, Apple Cider Vinegar, Sea Salt, Lemon Juice (Water, Lemon Concentrate, 1/10 of 1% Sodium Benzoate), Ground Pepper, Balsamic Wine Vinegar, Granulated Garlic, Ginger, Cayenne Pepper, Hickory Smoke, White Pepper, Paprika.
The beef used here is guaranteed to be ethically raised, meaning free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. These cattle are not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to roam about. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.
The liquid marinade used here is comprised of a decent natural sriracha sauce, healthy honey, super healthy apple cider vinegar, healthy lemon juice, and very healthy balsamic vinegar.
There are multiple healthy ingredients added such as ground pepper, granulated garlic, ginger, cayenne pepper, white pepper, and paprika
The heat is achieved here from using sriracha sauce and cayenne pepper.
The sugar level is high at 9 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference for a hot based flavor as we have here is 4 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is a little high at 400mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky. However the sodium level is ignored because minimally processed sea salt is used.
This jerky qualifies to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservative. Instead, salt is the main preservative used. With more kudos to Halal Mummified Jerky, this jerky has no MSG added.

Taste Review
Written by guest jerky reviewer Stéphane Leclerc
This Halal Mummified Jerky Chariot Sriracha Beef Jerky is exactly how a great Sriracha jerky should taste. A deep chili pepper flavor shines through with a simple combination of salt, black pepper and garlic. The apple cider vinegar makes these flavors “POP” and together they create a harmony of complex flavors. The Sriracha seasoning somewhat overshadows the beef flavor without overwhelming it completely. However, this flavor profile is so interesting, rich and flavorful that it makes it forgivable.
This jerky is moderately sweet and has a delightful blend of chilies, garlic, salt and pepper. The tanginess of the apple cider vinegar and sweetness from the sriracha sauce further elevates and balances the spiciness. As one may chew one strip after another, the spiciness increases at approximately 2/5 or slightly higher on the heat scale and this may be considered as fairly spicy.
These strips of jerky are mainly medium in size. The texture is more on the soft and tender side and fairly easy to chew. These strips are sliced against the grain and there is a slight oily residue left on the fingers while handling this jerky.
As Mark said: “This flavor profile is more than just sriracha sauce, I would term the overall blend of flavors to be a complex tasting blend of flavors, which is super addictive tasting. Somebody concocted a wicked tasting recipe here, and thankfully does justice to one of our favorites here with Sriracha sauce”.
Paul also stated: “Darn, this jerky is flavorful, and downright bloody tasty! This little morsel I just ate was exploding with vibrant taste. I could go off on another tangent about how incredibly tasty this flavor of jerky is, but I’ll just say, holy crap, excellent jerky HMJ!!”
We shared a tiny little bag and sampled this jerky, we were all equally favorable to this great meaty treat. We’ve rated the Halal Mummified Jerky Chariot Sriracha Beef Jerky an Excellent 10/10 taste rating. Home Run, Cheers!
A 2.5 ounce/70.9 gram bag of jerky sells online for $6.50, which works out to $2.60 an ounce. That would rate as an average price.
