Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks – Bourbon Soaked Beef Jerky

Monday, March 23, 2020 2 Comments

Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks - Bourbon Soaked Beef JerkyStoney Point Farm Market is a family owned and operated country farmers market with three generations, and over 85 years of experience in providing wholesome goods – primarily fresh cut meats, locally grown produce, and prepared food and specialty items. Plus Stoney Point Farm Market is 50% woman owned with an SQF Level 3 USDA facility.

Stoney Point Farm Market take great pride in having an extremely loyal customer base who appreciate their wide variety of offerings, competitive prices, and friendly service. Their farmers markets are conveniently located 1.5 miles southwest of Littlestown, Pennsylvania on Route 194 South, and in The Markets at Hanover on Broadway in Hanover, PA, and less than ten miles away from the Gettysburg National Military Park!

The Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks jerky brand was created to give back to the military. Out of every pound sold they donate a dollar to active duty troops overseas, and usually send around $5,000 dollars worth of jerky every December overseas to them. Half lb packages are sold for fundraisers at $8.50 a bag and they in turn sell them from 11 to 16 dollars. Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks is distributed under the name of Stoney Point Inc., and they are located in Littlestown, Pennsylvania.

The first review on Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks will focus on a 8 ounce/227 gram bag of their bourbon soaked flavored beef jerky. This jerky was kindly submitted for review by Amanda Fowler.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Soy Sauce (Water, Salt, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Corn Syrup, Caramel Color, Potassium Sorbate), Sugar, Smoke Flavor, Spices, Garlic Powder, Bourbon.    Allergen Warnings: Soy

Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks - Bourbon Soaked Beef JerkyThe beef used is ethically raised, meaning it is guaranteed to be free of growth hormones and additional antibiotics. Also, the cattle have at least partial free range access to roam about, and graze on grass the way nature intended. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.

Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks - Bourbon Soaked Beef JerkyThe liquid marinade is comprised of a poor brand of soy sauce, and bourbon. The drying process removes all alcohol content from the bourbon.

The sugar level is at the upper allowable limit for a sweet flavor at 4 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is somewhat high at 430mg of salt per 28 grams to lose a rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.

This jerky qualifies to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservative added. To a lesser degree the cultured dextrose also acts as a preservative. This jerky does not qualify to have no MSG added, as the highly processed cheap flavor enhancer hydrolyzed soy protein is used in the soy sauce to lose a rating.

Decent (7/10) – Ingredient Rating

STONEY POINT PREMIUM MEAT SNACKS – BOURBON SOAKED BEEF JERKY

Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker

When I open the bag, I smell beef. The strips are medium in size, and they are sliced to a medium thickness. The jerky is soft and chewy, but not too soft or chewy, which is a good thing. The jerky is slightly oily, and it leaves a marginal amount of oily residue on your fingers.

The first flavors I detect are salt (in spades, two thumbs up), pepper (again, a sizable amount, two more thumbs up), mild sweet (awesome), copious amounts of natural beef, and I am detecting some alcohol, not entirely convinced it’s bourbon, it’s more like a rye-ish flavor. I realize bourbon is another word for sour mash whiskey, but I’m more referring to regular rye, more like Crown Royal than Jack Daniel’s.

Whatever the case, this jerky is some kind of flippin’ tasty, it’s hitting on all cylinders. There is no kick, but it is not advertised as so, so no harm no foul.

The ultimate compliment I can offer any jerky is it tastes like ‘more’, ‘much, much more’. Can we order this flavor by the truckload? A slam dunk, grand slam, Hail Mary, top corner glove side 10/10 gentlemen, be prepared for withdrawal symptoms after consuming. Two gargantuan thumbs up!!!👍👍

Here is Stéphane’s taste review: “The Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks Bourbon Soaked Beef Jerky is top notch. It’s a very simple flavor profile, it is well balanced and it’s a super tasty delicacy. The beef flavor comes through in spades while gently accentuated by the Bourbon. The smokiness and a little sweetness really bring this over the top. This jerky is absolutely delicious and crazy addictive.”

“Sometimes, less is more and Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks clearly demonstrates with their Bourbon Soaked Beef Jerky. This is the kind of jerky everybody loves and they’ll crave for more.”

“I certainly agree with Paul: ‘A slam dunk, grand slam, Hail Mary, top corner glove side 10/10 gentlemen, be prepared for withdrawal symptoms after consuming. Two gargantuan thumbs up!!!👍👍'”

Here is what Mark had to say about this Bourbon Soaked beef jerky flavor from Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks: “Thanks Paul and Stéphane for the great taste reviews. What else can I say? Agreed with Paul and Stéphane, this flavor tastes great, and is addictive. Whiskey based flavors are challenging to pull off, but Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks pulls it off with a distinctive whiskey flavor from the Kentucky bourbon that tastes sweet like cherries and syrupy.”

“Once again to echo Paul: ‘A slam dunk, grand slam, Hail Mary, top corner glove side 10/10 gentlemen, be prepared for withdrawal symptoms after consuming. Two gargantuan thumbs up!!!👍👍'”

This 8 ounce/227 gram bag of jerky sells at the Stoney Point Farm Market stores for $13.00, which rates as a cheap price.

Bag Review

This clear resealable bag has labels affixed to the front and back. The Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks logo has two knives crossed, and pictures of a horse, elk, and wild boar heads. This bag is vacuum sealed, the best possible way to keep jerky fresh tasting.

There is no slogan printed on this bag. The only fact printed is “Made in USA”.

The only bag categories missing are the bag not being resealable, and no best before date. A sticker is affixed, which seems to have a batch number that could translate to a best before date. Commendably, a phone number is provided for customer inquiries. A small blurb is printed about Stoney Point Premium Meat Snacks.

Decent (7/10) – Bag Rating
