Beef Jerky Outlet – Shark Jerky

Tuesday, February 4, 2025 Leave a Comment

Beef Jerky Outlet - Shark JerkyThe Beef Jerky Outlet, established in 2010, is the nation’s largest national jerky franchise. With over 100 locations in over 30 states, the brand has rapidly expanded, offering a vast selection of premium jerky products. Specializing in over 100 varieties of jerky, including exotic meats like kangaroo, alligator, venison, and elk, as well as unique flavors such as Moonshine and Cajun, the Beef Jerky Outlet ensures there’s something to satisfy every palate.

Beef Jerky Outlet’s commitment to quality is evident in its small-batch production, ensuring freshness and superior taste. All products are made in the USA and are USDA approved. To enhance the customer experience, they offer a “Try Before You Buy” policy, allowing guests to sample different products to find their preferred flavors. Beyond their extensive jerky offerings, the Beef Jerky Outlet provides a range of other snacks, including flavored popcorn, sauces, and seasonings, catering to a wide array of snacking preferences. This Beef Jerky Outlet jerky brand is distributed under the name of Beef Jerky Outlet Franchise Inc., located in Kodak, Tennessee, near the Smoky Mountains.

The next review on Beef Jerky Outlet will focus on a 2.75 ounce/78 gram bag of their Original flavored shark jerky. This flavor is described as having a teriyaki base that is lightly peppered and added irresistible seasonings. The bag was purchased in the East Rutherford Beef Jerky Outlet store at the American Dream retail center in New Jersey.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Shark, Brown Sugar, Teriyaki Sauce (Soy Sauce [Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt], Wine, Sugar, Water, Vinegar, Salt, Onion Powder, Spice Extractives, Succinic Acid, Garlic Powder), Lemon Juice, Water, Garlic, Spices, Liquid Smoke (Water, Hickory Smoke Concentrate), Vinegar Powder, Celery Powder (Celery Juice Solids, Sea Salt).    Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat, Fish (Shark)

Beef Jerky Outlet - Shark JerkyThe sharks used are believed to be grey sharks. Eating grey shark can provide several health benefits due to its rich nutritional profile. It is an excellent source of lean protein, essential for muscle growth, tissue repair, and overall metabolic function. Shark meat is also high in omega-3 fatty acids, essential vitamins, and minerals such as vitamin B12, phosphorus, and magnesium. Despite these benefits, consumption should be moderated due to the potential risk of mercury accumulation, as sharks are apex predators that can store higher levels of toxins. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is an Excellent (10/10) rating.

Beef Jerky Outlet - Shark JerkyThe liquid marinade is comprised of a good brand of teriyaki sauce, healthy lemon juice, and liquid smoke. (Water, Hickory Smoke Concentrate), and healthy vinegar in powdered form.

Some healthy ingredients added are garlic and spices.

The sugar level is a little high at 6 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 3 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is on the low side at 230mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.

This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite. Instead, salt is the main preservative, and celery powder to a lesser extent. Commendably, this jerky does qualify to have no MSG added.

Very Good (9/10) – Ingredient Rating

BEEF JERKY OUTLET – SHARK JERKY

Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker

When I open the bag I smell something I can’t put my finger on. It’s a unique smell. The pieces are medium to large in size, and they are sliced to a medium thickness. The hue of the jerky is lighter than most other jerky out there. The texture is not very rigid, which is contrary to my preference. The jerky is dry, and it leaves no oily residue on your fingers.

When I bite into the jerky I am met with salt, at a decent level, sweet, not overly sweet, but a little sweeter than I would have liked. I also taste pepper at a decent level, garlic at a mild level, and not much else.

Overall, a good flavor. I am not sure, outside of the light hue, what is unique about the shark flavor. I suppose I would have preferred a little less marinade or additives in order to get a more indicative taste of the shark. I am not really picking up on the shark flavor, but I have never had shark anything before, so I don’t have anything that I have consumed previously to compare it to.

I like the flavor, don’t get me wrong, but I would have preferred to taste more of the shark, and less of the rest. I feel confident in awarding an 8.5/10, which rounds up to a 9/10. Gentlemen?

This is an interesting jerky. The marinade is well balanced and a favorable representation of a Teriyaki flavor. The saltiness is on point and a little sweet, as expected from a flavorful Teriyaki with an Asian flair.

The Cracked Black Pepper is at an exquisite level. The aroma and texture is pleasant. I agree with Paul that the delicate flavor of the shark is muted and overwhelmed by the marinade. As such, we are here to review the jerky as a whole and not only the marinade.

I still rate this jerky a 9/10 taste rating, and I wish the shark would come through more readily.

Overall, it is still a tasty jerky with a little room for improvement.

Here is what Mark had to say about this Original shark flavor from Beef Jerky Outlet: “Thanks Paul and Stéphane for the concise taste reviews. As with Paul, this was my first opportunity to eat shark. This shark jerky had no flavor assigned but is described as being a teriyaki flavor.”

“I was surprised Paul mentioned the lack of shark flavor as that is normally something that Stéphane would point out. I totally agree though, the shark flavor was almost completely drowned out by the marinade. Initially, I was worried that it would taste overly fishy, but that was not the case at all. Even though I consumed my portion of shark jerky, it still feels as if I have yet to experience shark. Otherwise, there are no other complaints. A unanimous Very Good (9/10) taste rating will be awarded.”

This 2.75 ounce/78 gram bag sells in the Beef Jerky Outlet store for $19.99. That works out to $7.27 an ounce, which rates as an expensive price.

Bag Review

This resealable plastic bag has everything printed imprinted on both the front and back with multiple illustrations of water. A picture of a grey shark is displayed on the front. The Beef Jerky Outlet logo has bull horns above its name.

A slogan printed on this bag is “See It. Taste It. Share It”. Some facts printed on this bag are “3 Servings Per Bag”, 90 Calories”, “11g Protein”, “Liquid Smoke Added”, “Heat – 2 | Sweet – 5 | Ranked out of 10′, “Proud American Company”, “Locally Owned”, “Usually Devoured in Seconds”, and “Download Our App”.

The only missing bag category is a blurb about this flavor or shark jerky. A QR code is displayed to download their app.
