Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt, Sodium Benzoate less than 1/10 of 1% as a preservative), Worcestershire Sauce (Water, Molasses, Salt, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Acetic Acid, Caramel Color, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein [Soy], Gluten Free Slower [Millet Flour, Potato Starch, Tapioca Starch, Rice Flour Whole Grain Sorghum, Xanthan Gum], Natural Flavor, Guar Gum, Benzoate of Soda), Builion with Bone Broth, Yeast Extract, Salt, Cane Sugar, Maltodextrin (from Corn), Barley Malt Extract (Gluten), Onion Powder, Potato Flour, Garlic Powder, Spice Extractives, Natural Flavor), Sugar, Liquid Smoke, Garlic, Onion, Cayenne Pepper, Sodium Nitrite. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat
Sierra Madre Provision Co. uses ranch raised beef, which means the cattle have free range access to graze on grass. The cattle are also ethically raised, meaning that the cows receive no growth hormones or additional antibiotics. As a result, the ingredient rating starts at a Very Good (9/10) rating.
The liquid marinade used here contains an average brand of soy sauce, a poor brand of Worcestershire Sauce, healthy builion, and liquid smoke.
Some healthy ingredients added are onion, cayenne pepper, and garlic.
Super unhealthy high fructose corn syrup is used in the Worcestershire sauce to lose a rating.
The sugar level is a little high at 4 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 3 grams of sugar or less. The salt level is quite high at 740mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does not qualify to be sodium nitrite free, as sodium nitrite is used outright as a preservative to lose a rating. This jerky does not qualify to have no MSG added as the highly processed, cheap flavor enhancer hydrolyzed soy protein is used to lose another rating.

SIERRA MADRE PROVISIONS CO. – PRIME RIB BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell natural beef, and not much else. The strips of jerky are rather large, and they are sliced medium to thick. The jerky is dry and rigid, just as our forefathers intended.
When I bite into the jerky I am met with a myriad of flavors. I taste salt, at a decent level, minimal sweet, pepper, also at a decent level, mild garlic and onion, and I am also noticing a bit of a zing, not too intense, but definitely noticeable.
The overall taste of this jerky is very favorable, although I cannot definitively say that I am picking up on the “prime rib” flavor, it just tastes like regular beef to me. But outside of that complaint I cannot find anything else to be an issue, therefore I am awarding a well-deserved 9/10, only deducting a point for the lack of a definitive “prime rib” flavor.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Prime Rib beef jerky flavor from Sierra Madre Provision Co. “Thanks Paul for the candid taste review. I pretty much agree with everything stated. The saltiness is at a fairly strong level and the natural flavor of beef is at a good level. While this flavor is enjoyable, I too cannot pick up on what the prime rib flavor is exactly supposed to be, where it tastes like an original flavor. A unanimous Very Good (9/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 3 ounce/85 gram bag sells online for $7.99, which works out to $2.65 an ounce. That rates as a cheap price. Free shipping is offered on orders over $49.99.

Bag Review
This is a relatively tall, resealable bag. The front is gold, and the back is silver, with nothing on the back. A label is affixed to the front, but nothing is on the back. The scenic picture on this bag depicts mountains, including a few California palm trees.
There are no slogans or facts printed on this bag.
Some missing bag categories are a blurb about Sierra Madre Provision Co. and a missing sesame allergen alert. Kudos to Sierra Madre Provision Co., where they provide a toll-free phone number for customer inquiries.
