Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Water, Sugar, Ground Black Pepper, Sodium Nitrite.
The beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
The liquid marinade is comprised of just plain old water.
The only healthy ingredient added is black pepper.
The sugar level is perfect at 0 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is somewhat high at 400mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does not qualify to have no sodium nitrite added as sodium nitrite is used outright as a preservative to lose a rating. Admirably, this jerky does qualify to have no MSG added.
Alright (6/10) – Ingredient Rating

BUC-EE’S BEEF JERKY – PEPPERED BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I believe I smell the pepper. I may also be smelling vinegar. The pieces are predominantly medium in both size and thickness. The jerky is dry and chewy, exactly as our forefathers intended. There is no oily residue left on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky, I taste an excellent degree of salt, practically no sweetness, and an incredible degree of pepper. I also detect some garlic and possible onion, maybe ever so slight vinegar, and natural beef. Wow!! This jerky is crazy tasty. This jerky is delicious, addictive, and precisely as advertised.
I can find absolutely NOTHING that I don’t like in this particular flavor, it is probably deserving of a 20/10, but since that is not possible, we will have to settle on a very enthusiastic 10/10 👍👍
Here is what Mark had to say about this Peppered beef jerky flavor from Buc-ee’s Beef Jerky: “Thanks Paul for the upbeat taste review. I generally agree with Paul here. The salt and pepper are at good levels as Paul stated. There is no vinegar, onion, or garlic as listed ingredients. In fact, this jerky contains on six ingredients. Thankfully, there is minimal sweetness present, which is much appreciated.”
“The natural beef flavor has no hint at all of tasting processed. The overall taste profile is simple, where the ground black pepper is the strongest flavor, just the way it should be for a Peppered flavor. While I have no clear cut complaints about this jerky, I will say it lacks a little bit on the ‘wow’ factor. With Paul at a 10 and myself at an Excellent (10/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 4 ounce/113 gram bag of jerky sold for $8.99, which equates to $2.25 an ounce. That rates as a pretty cheap price.
Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating
Bag Review
This plastic, resealable bag has everything imprinted on the front and back. The Buc-ee’s Beef Jerky logo displays a beaver wearing a red baseball cap.
There are no slogans displayed on this bag. Some facts printed are “Old Western Style”, “15g Protein”, and “Made from Solid Strips of Beef”.
The only missing bag category is the jerky brand name not being displayed on the front. A good blurb is printed on the back about this jerky.
