Taste Review

SHALHOOB MEAT CO. – JALAPENO BEEF JERKY

Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker

When I open the bag I smell mild vinegar. The pieces are small to medium in size and sliced to a medium thickness. The jerky is quite dry and rigid, exactly as our forefathers intended. There is no oily residue left on your fingers.

When I bite into the jerky, I taste salt at a decent level, next to no sweetness, decent pepper and garlic, and after a few seconds, the jalapeño kicks in. I don’t really taste the vinegar that I thought I smelled when I opened the bag, but that is not unusual.

As I consume more, the jalapeño flavor is kicking up a bit more, but not too intense. This is a very tasty flavor, I am duly enjoying it. I see no reason not to award a 10/10, it hits on all the right notes. Gentlemen?

Here is what Mark had to say about this Jalapeno beef jerky flavor from Shalhoob Meat Co.: “Thanks Paul for the positive taste review. I mostly agree with everything stated. The heat starts slowly but ramps up as you consume more strips. The heat level would rate a solid 2 out of 4 on a heat scale, higher than usual for a Jalapeno based flavor. I would not say next to no sweetness, but rather mild to light.

“The natural beef flavor has no hint of tasting processed and tastes like your standard beef jerky. While soy flavor is present, it is minimal, as is the smokiness. The overall taste profile is relatively simple and well-balanced. I have no clear cut complaints about this flavor, other than to say there is no ‘wow’ factor. With Paul at a 10 and myself at a 9, an Excellent (10/10) taste rating will be awarded.”

This 3 ounce/85 gram bag of jerky sells for $7.50. That equates to rates as $2.50 an ounce, which rates as a cheap price.

Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

This resealable clear plastic bag has labels affixed to both the front and back. The Shalhoob Meat Co. logo has a bull’s head.

A slogan printed on this bag is “Santa Barbara Style”. Some facts printed are “Natural Wood Smoked”, “Made with Sea Salt”, and “Made in USA”.

Some missing bag categories are a blurb about Shalhoob Meat Co. or this flavor, a soy allergen alert, and the jerky weight stated in grams. To the credit of Shalhoob Meat Co., a phone number is provided for customer inquiries.

Alright (6/10) – Bag Rating
