Black Tiger – Whiskey Beef Jerky

Sunday, November 16, 2014 Leave a Comment

Black Tiger - Whiskey Beef JerkyThe next review on Black Tiger premium jerky will focus on a 3 ounce/85 gram bag of their whiskey beef jerky flavor. This jerky was kindly submitted by the Black Tiger team.

Black Tiger premium jerky is manufactured and distributed by Black Tiger LLC. They are based out of La Mirada, California. Black Tiger premium jerky started with a goal to make the very best natural jerky products using only the finest meats and ingredients. No nitrites/nitrates are ever used. Black Tiger was founded by health and culinary enthusiasts. Their defining words are RARE, BOLD, and EXOTIC.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Worcestershire Sauce (Vinegar, Molasses, Corn Syrup, Salt, Water, Spices, Caramel Color, Anchovies, Natural Flavor (contains soy) Tamarind Extract and Garlic Powder), Naturally Brewed Soy Sauce (Water, Soybeans, Wheat, Salt, Alcohol), Brown Sugar, Spices, Liquid Smoke, Whiskey, Celery Salt, Sea Salt.    Allergen Warnings: Anchovies, Soy, Wheat

Black Tiger - Whiskey Beef JerkyThe beef used here is sourced from US brokers and farms. This cattle is ethically raised, meaning no growth hormones or additional antibiotics are given.

Black Tiger - Whiskey Beef JerkyThe liquid marinade consists of Worcestershire sauce, naturally brewed soy sauce, liquid smoke, and whiskey. As sauces go, the Worcestershire sauce and naturally brewed soy sauce have decent ingredient lists. Admirably, actual whiskey is used here, where the jerky drying process removes all alcohol content.

There is no nutrition facts table provided. As a result, the exact sugar and salt levels are unknown.

There are no unhealthy preservatives used, qualifying this jerky to have no sodium nitrite. Interestingly, celery salt with its naturally occurring nitrates are used as a preservative. Sea salt is the main preservative, which is a far superior choice to using table salt. This jerky also qualifies to have no MSG added.

Very Good (9/10) – Ingredient Rating

Taste Review

Some of these strips of jerky are rather large. They are sliced borderline thick. The texture is dry, but not too dry. There are no signs of fat anywhere, and handling this jerky leaves no residue on your fingers.

The first taste detected is the Worcestershire sauce, and the soy taste to a lesser degree. Soon afterward this jerky takes on a barbecue taste. The saltiness is light at first, and eventually builds to a moderate saltiness, well within reason. The sweetness level is just sweet enough. All along there is a pleasant, light smoky flavor in the background, along with a light whiskey taste. Overall, an impressive whiskey flavor.

This 3 ounce/85 gram bag retails online for $8.00 online. That works out to $2.67 an ounce, which translates to an expensive price. This jerky is well worth your money, plus they have free shipping on all US orders.

Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

There is a label affixed to the front, and nothing on the back. The border of this label has intricate artwork, with a cow’s skull in the middle of the label.

Slogans printed on this bag are “Rare”, “Bold”, “Exotic”, “Liquid Smoke Added”, and “Made With Premium Cut, Herbs & Spice Blend”.

The majority of bag categories are covered here. Missing is a nutrition facts table, and the jerky weight is not stated in grams.

Decent (7/10) – Bag Rating
