The next review for KRAVE Jerky will be on a 3.25 ounce/92 gram bag of their lemon garlic turkey jerky flavor. This bag was kindly submitted by the KRAVE Jerky team.
The KRAVE Jerky brand name is distributed by Krave Pure Foods, Inc. They are located in the wine region of Sonoma, California. The company was founded in 2009 by Jon Sebastian, who had a crave for all natural jerky with a soft and tender texture. Today, KRAVE Jerky is among the top 10 jerky makers in North America. Recently, an artisanal line of jerky flavors was introduced. In an interesting move, KRAVE Jerky was acquired by the Hershey’s chocolate company in January 2015.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Turkey Breast, Evaporated Cane Syrup, Low Sodium Gluten Free Soy Sauce (Water, Soybeans, Salt, Alcohol), Lemon Juice, Garlic, Black Pepper, Celery Juice Powder. Allergen Warnings: Soy
The turkey used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the turkey is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to roam abouyt. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
The liquid marinade consists of evaporated cane syrup, low sodium gluten free soy sauce, and lemon juice. Lemons offer many nutritional health benefits.
Many people believe that garlic belongs in the superfood category.
The sugar level is on the high side at 7 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. Our preference is 3 grams of sugar or less. Fortunately, evaporated cane syrup is the primary sweetener used, which is one of the better sweeteners out there. The salt level is quite high at 490mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less.
This jerky does qualify to be sodium nitrite free. Admirably, celery juice powder is the main preservative used, which has naturally occurring nitrates. With more kudos to KRAVE Jerky, this jerky has no MSG added.

Taste Review
There is a mixture of small and medium sized pieces. Curiously, there are thin and thick sized pieces within a large range. This jerky does have a soft and tender texture, which makes for fairly easy chewing. There are no visible signs of fat. These jerky strips definitely have a sticky residue on them.
The first taste detected is a mild garlic flavor. There is a fair amount of natural turkey flavor. The soy taste is light, and there is a moderately sweet taste. As you eat more strips, the garlic level stays mild, but just strong enough for a flavor advertised to be garlic based. Occasionally, there is a faint peppery taste.
The lemon taste is mild, although inconsistent. There is a noticeable taste difference between the slices that are sliced thick, compared to the thin slices. The lemon taste is more noticeable in the thin slices surface, and not so much in the thick slices. Overall, this jerky is tasty, but the lemon and garlic combination is better with the thin slices.
This 3.25 ounce/92 gram bag sells online for $7.00. That works out to $2.15 an ounce, which rates as an average price. This jerky is a good buy for people who enjoy the taste of turkey, with a mild lemon/garlic taste combination.
Bag Review
This is a standard resealable plastic bag. Everything is imprinted directly on the bag itself, both on the front and back. This bag has no labels affixed. There are many random images, and jerky sayings are in the blue part of this bag. The KRAVE Jerky logo is of a person running, where KRAVE Jerky has an affiliation to marathons.
Slogans printed on this bag are “Live a Cut Above”, “Move. Eat. Live. KRAVE.”, and “ENJOY”. There are facts printed on this bag such as “Good Source of Protein”, “No Nitrites”, “Low Fat”, “No Artificial Ingredients”, and “Minimally Processed”.
All bag categories are covered here with this bag. There is a great blurb printed on the back of this bag describing KRAVE Jerky and their lemon pepper flavor.
