CopperNose – Garlic & Chilli 100% Grass-Fed Beef Jerky

Saturday, August 6, 2016 Leave a Comment

CopperNose Jerky - Garlic & Chilli Beef JerkyThe first review for CopperNose will be on a 1.8 ounce/50 gram bag of their garlic & chilli flavored 100% grass-fed beef jerky. The bag was kindly submitted for review by one of the co-owners, Daniel Derry.

This CopperNose jerky brand is distributed by CopperNose Inc., located in Burford, Oxfordshire, England. The idea started with Daniels’ brother Liam in his final year at the Royal Agricultural University in 2015, where he competed, and placed runner-up in the UK Grand Idea Competition. Daniel had spent the last 5 years sourcing out ingredients for their jerky, and came back home in 2015. In 2016, they were awarded with a Virgin Startup Company status from Richard Branson and his team. In March 2016, their operations expanded to deliver their craft jerky both at home and abroad.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Whole slices of beef, Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt), Salt, Chopped Garlic, Garlic Powder, Crushed Red Pepper, Black Pepper, Liquid Smoke, Cayenne Pepper.    Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat, Garlic

CopperNose Jerky - Garlic & Chilli Beef JerkyTo be commended, the beef used is 100% grass-fed using a British silverside cut of beef, where it can be traced back to the farm. The cattle are ethically raised, meaning no growth hormones or additional antibiotics are administered.

CopperNose Jerky - Garlic & Chilli Beef JerkyThe liquid marinade is comprised of a good soy sauce, and liquid smoke.

CopperNose Jerky - Garlic & Chilli Beef JerkySuper healthy garlic is used, which is part of the allium family, and aids people differently depending on their individual needs. The heat is achieved from crushed red peppers, and cayenne pepper. Hot peppers are healthy if eaten in moderation, which flush toxins out of the body.

While there is a nutrition facts table provided, it would appear that things are measured differently in Europe compared to North America. Based on the taste alone, there is very little sweetness, and the salt is at a moderate level.

This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservative used is salt. Admirably, there is also no MSG added.

Excellent (10/10) – Ingredient Rating

Taste Review

These strips of beef are mostly small in size, and are sliced to a medium thickness. The texture is dry, where chewing this jerky is still at a reasonable level. There are no visible signs of fat, and handling this jerky leaves no oily residue on your fingers.

The first taste detected is a moderate level of soy sauce, along with a moderate level of saltiness. There is a good mild level of garlic, and the black pepper is at a light level. With the absence of any sweetness, there is a good deal of natural beef flavor.

As for the spiciness, it is at a mild level. On a heat scale, it would rate about a 2 out of 5. This flavor delivers on both the garlic and chili aspects. Overall, a very taste treat that leaves you wanting more.

This 1.8 ounce/50 gram bag sells online for £3.65. That works out to £2.02 an ounce, which rates as an average price. Considering that 100% grass-fed beef is used, it would more be considered a cheap price. This jerky achieves the trifecta, being highly recommended on price, ingredient, and taste aspects.

Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

This is a small sized, non-resealable plastic bag, with a label affixed to both the back and front. The CopperNose logo is the head of a cow, with a copper ring in its nose.

Their slogan is “A World of Flavour”. Some facts printed on this bag are “Ethically sourced Biritish beef with animal welfare in mind”, “Low in Fat & Carbs”, “Promotes Healthy Eating”, “High in Protein”, “No preservatives”, “100% Grass Fed”, and “Supports Weight Loss”.

All bag categories are covered with this bag except that the distributor address details are not provided. There is a very good blurb printed on back about this jerky and CopperNose. Their Facebook and Instagram handles are provided.

Good (8/10) – Bag Rating
