The Patriot Brands Jerky – Forefathers Whiskey Beef Jerky

Thursday, October 10, 2019 Leave a Comment

The Patriot Brands Jerky - Forefathers Whiskey Beef JerkyIn 2018, current CEO James Napier, being a knee down amputee, was determined not to let that disability affect him. James reached out to a friend, fellow patriot, serial entrepreneur, and current COO Lance Wood. Together, while eating some special hot sauces at a local barbecue, James thought that he could sell these hot sauces. In collaboration with their wives, The Patriot Brands LLC was launched shortly afterward selling hot sauces.

James then resurrected his dream of selling jerky. Teaming up with trusted FDA certified processor Kill to Grill with their decades of experience manufacturing jerky, this The Patriot Brands Jerky was officially launched. Late in 2018, The Patriot Brands LLC introduced meat sticks to their line of products for sale. This jerky is distributed by The Patriot Brands LLC, and they are located in Cuba, Missouri.

The next review on The Patriot Brands Jerky will focus on a 3 ounce/84 gram bag of their Forefathers Whiskey flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as a unique flavor that combines great Beef and a wonderful whiskey taste. The bag was kindly submitted for review by COO Lance Wood.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Sugar, Salt, Tomato Powder, Onion and Garlic Powder, Corn Starch, Natural Hickory Smoke Flavor (Contains Maltodextrin), Citric Acid, Spice Extractives, Sodium Nitrite.

The Patriot Brands Jerky - Forefathers Whiskey Beef JerkyThe beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.

There is no marinade used here, which some refer to as old fashioned jerky, or a dry rub. While advertised to use real whiskey, but not a listed ingredient, the drying process removes the alcohol content.

Some healthy ingredients are added such as garlic powder, spices, tomato powder, and onion powder.

The sugar level is a little high at 4 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 3 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is high at 610mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.

This jerky does not qualify to have no sodium nitrite added, as sodium nitrite is used outright to lose a rating. To a lesser degree, citric acid also acts as a preservative. Admirably, this jerky does qualify to have no added MSG.

Taste Review

Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker

When I open the bag I don’t smell much, maybe a bit of pineapple juice or something, not entirely sure. The jerky strips are medium to large in size, and cut to a medium thickness. The jerky is perfect in texture, not too soft and not too dry. It is easy to chew, and it leaves no oily residue on your fingers.

Wow, I have to admit, this jerky is not shy. There is a myriad of tasty flavors emanating from this flavor. I taste salt, pepper, garlic, onion, tons of natural beef, and I do believe I am picking up on a slight flavor of something alcoholic in the background. I’m afraid most of the alcohol has dissipated from the jerky already, but I believe I am picking up on some slight remnants of the alcohol.

I have to say, this flavor of jerky is resonating with me, I find this flavor very appealing to my palette, it definitely qualifies to label this flavor as ‘more’, as in I’m craving more of this delicious jerky.

To the folks over at The Patriot Brands Jerky, you certainly know how to make delectable jerky. My fastball is no match for you guys, you keep hitting moon shots out of the stadium. It appears I’m going to have to summon my bullpen, although I doubt the results will change. Two thumbs way way up, another moon shot over the left field wall. 10/10 gentlemen… 👍👍”

Here is what Mark had to say about this Forefathers Whiskey beef jerky flavor from The Patriot Brands Jerky: “Thanks Paul for another great taste review. I am mainly on board with Paul here, where this flavor tastes great. While this flavor resembles the flavor of whiskey somewhat, this flavor is not a well-defined whiskey flavor. Based on personal experience, it is rare to fully capture the taste of whiskey in jerky. Nonetheless this whiskey jerky flavor is still enjoyable.

“Here are the official ratings between the Group of Seven (Mark – 9, Paul – 10, Stéphane – 9, Nolan – 8, Mark M. – 9, Sid – 7, Ava – 7.25)”.

A 3 ounce/85 gram bag is currently sells online for sale at $6.99. That works out to $2.33 an ounce, which rates as a cheap price. Free shipping on online orders of $40 and a free pocket Constitution!

Bag Review

This clear plastic resealable bag has a label affixed to the front, and nothing on the back. With The Patriot Brands LLC being so patriotic, it is no surprise that the colors of the USA flag red, white and blue are used.

There are no slogans or facts printed on this bag.

The majority of bag categories are covered here. Missing is a blurb printed about The Patriot Brands Jerky and this Forefathers Whiskey flavor. Also missing is a best before date, but a sticker on the back is likely the batch number, which could translate to a best before date.

Decent (7/10) – Bag Rating
