100% grass-fed beef is used here, just the way nature intended. These cattle are raised ethically, meaning they are not fed growth hormones or additional antibiotics. There is also some free range access for the cattle to roam about. As a result, the ingredient rating starts at Excellent (10/10).
The liquid marinade consists of a respected brand of gluten-free tamari soy sauce, healthy pineapple juice, liquid smoke, and organic Worcestershire sauce.
The only healthy ingredients added are super healthy garlic and black pepper.
The sugar level is a little high at 5 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 3 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is high at 480mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite added. Instead, salt is the main preservative added. Admirably, this jerky does qualify to have no MSG added.

WEGMANS – ORIGINAL 100% GRASS-FED BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I don’t really smell anything. The pieces are generally uniform in size. They are medium in size and thickness. The jerky is not oily yet somewhat soft, and there is no oily residue on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky I taste salt and sweet, both at borderline levels, along with garlic and onion in the background. I am also picking up on the pepper, along with natural beef.
While this jerky is favorable, it is not blowing me away, but the original flavor kind of covers it because it is not supposed to blow you away by design. A good flavor is the best I can come up with honestly, so I guess this review is writing itself as a 7/10, which suits me fine. Gentlemen?

The Wegmans – Original Grass-Fed Beef Jerky is on the sweeter side of the equation for an Original flavor. I mainly notice its sweetness, some fruitiness with black pepper flavor, and smokiness in the background.
Its flavor profile is off balance, and a little tweaking would likely yield better results. The texture is favorable, lean, and dry, and it has a tender and clean bite. This jerky is significantly sweet, and it leaves a sweet rolling after-taste in the mouth.
This Wegmans – Original Grass-Fed Beef Jerky has potential, and I was expecting much more from Wegmans. I’d rate this jerky 8/10 Taste Rating.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Original 100% grass-fed beef jerky flavor from Wegmans: “Thanks Stéphane and Paul for the honest taste reviews. I mostly agree with both of you. Very true that this flavor is sweet tasting, which is a pet peeve of mine. What bothered me the most was how processed tasting the beef was. More or less a complete turnoff. The saltiness is at a moderate level and light flavors of black pepper, smoke, and garlic.”
“In short, this jerky has zero ‘wow’ factor. With Stéphane at an 8 rating, Paul at a 7 rating, and myself at a 6 rating, a Decent (7/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 3 ounce/85 gram bag sold for $5.49, which works out to $1.83 an ounce. That rates as a cheap price.
Bag Review
This red resealable plastic bag has everything imprinted on the bag, both on the front and back. There is a high resolution picture on the front of some jerky strips.
A slogan printed on this bag is “Food You Feel Good About”. Some facts printed are “Made With 100% Grass-Fed Beef”, “Natural Smoke Flavoring Added”, “No Nitrates or Nitrites Added”, “70 Calories”, “0g Sat Fat”, “480mg Sodium”, and “5g Added Sugar”.
The only missing bag category is a transparent window to view the jerky. A small blurb is printed on the back describing Wegmans. To the credit of Wegmans, a phone number is provided for customer inquiries.
