Kipfer’s Heritage Farms – Original Beef Jerky

Thursday, September 26, 2024 Leave a Comment

Kipfer's Heritage Farms - Original Beef JerkyKipfer’s Heritage Farms are locally owned and operated. They are 25+ small family farms working together to bring you high quality, local food. All their feed is non-GMO, and their animals get no antibiotics. Their products include Berkshire pork, black Angus beef, free range eggs, duck, turkey, and summer sausage. Kipfer’s Heritage Farms have been active in the Ontario farmers’ market scene since 2015, with stalls at the St. Jacobs and Cambridge Farmers’ Markets.

Kipfer’s Heritage Farms specializes in heritage pork production. They focus on raising Berkshire and Tamworth pigs in a natural, pasture-based environment, free from hormones and antibiotics. The pigs are supplemented with a diet of non-GMO wheat, oats, barley, and soy, ensuring the animals are healthy and the meat is of high quality. The farm, founded by Jason Kipfer, supports small, local family farms and is dedicated to providing wholesome food at reasonable prices.

The Kipfer’s Heritage Farms jerky brand name is distributed under the same name Kipfer’s Heritage Farms, and it is located in Milverton, Ontario, Canada. This jerky is manufactured by Earlidale and it is located in Elmira, Ontario.

The first review on Kipfer’s Heritage Farms will focus on an approximately 6 ounce/170 gram bag of their Original flavoured beef jerky. This bag was purchased at St. Jacobs Market in St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Soy Sauce (Water, Salt, Caramel, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Corn Syrup, Glucose Solids, Sodium Benzoate, Dimethylpolysiloxane [Antifoaming Agent]), Sugar, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Sodium Nitrate, Spice, Natural Smoke.    Allergen Warnings: Soy

Kipfer's Heritage Farms - Original Beef JerkyThe cattle are guaranteed to have partial free range access to graze on grass. The cattle are also ethically raised, meaning that the cows receive no growth hormones or additional antibiotics. As a result, the ingredient rating starts at a Very Good (9/10) rating.

The liquid marinade is comprised of just an unhealthy brand of soy sauce.

Some healthy ingredients added are onion powder and garlic powder.

There are no nutritional facts provided. As a result, the exact sugar and salt levels are unknown.

Dimethylpolysiloxane is a controversial ingredient with an antifoaming quality used in a wide range of industries, such as skincare, shampoos, cosmetics, and lubricants. However, I could find no conclusive proof that it is unhealthy for human consumption.

This jerky does not qualify to have no sodium nitrite added as sodium nitrate is used outright as a preservative to lose a rating. This jerky does not qualify to have no MSG added, as the highly processed, cheap flavor enhancer hydrolyzed soy protein is used to lose another rating.

Taste Review

KIPFER’S HERITAGE FARMS – ORIGINAL BEEF JERKY

Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker

When I open the bag I smell what I believe to be vinegar, but I may also be detecting smoke. It is one giant piece of jerky. It is also rather thick. It is dry(ish) and juicy, mostly like our forefathers intended. The jerky is reddish in colour, likely intonating a fair amount of marinade.

When I bite into the jerky I immediately taste salt, at a great level, minimal sweetness, also a great thing, along with pepper, also at a great level, along with slight garlic and slight onion. I also taste vinegar, or what I believe to be vinegar, but it could also be smoke I am tasting. I am tasting that buttery flavour as well. This is quite the flavour. I am duly impressed. I have zero complaints. A very definitive 10/10.

Here is what Mark had to say about this Original beef jerky flavour from Kipfer’s Heritage Farms: “Thanks Paul for the accurate taste review. I agree with everything stated. I find it interesting that you mentioned a buttery flavour, a term that we only notice when the natural beef flavour tastes superior to regular beef. All the ingredients used taste subtle tasting except for the saltiness and pepper. This allows the natural beef flavor to shine through, just as it should be for an original flavor.”

“Normally, the taste of smoke is in the background. In this case, the taste of smoke is more at the forefront. Overall, a simple, well-balanced taste profile, which I found to be extremely addictive. A slam dunk unanimous Excellent (10/10) taste rating will be awarded. A very enthusiastic two thumbs up!!👍👍”

This approximately 6 ounce/170 gram bag of jerky costs $15.00. That works out to $2.50 an ounce, which rates as a cheap price.

Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

All we have is a plain plastic bag with no labels. There is nothing to review here.
