Grill Your Ass Off is a veteran owned jerky and BBQ brand founded in 2016 by former U.S. Army Infantryman Jason Murff, built around a mission to bring people together through bold flavors, humor, and a strong sense of camaraderie. Originally launched with BBQ seasonings inspired by Murff’s time cooking for fellow soldiers, the company has since expanded into a full line of products, including beef jerky, sauces, and rubs, all made in the United States with a focus on quality and distinctive, often high impact flavor profiles.
The brand’s identity leans heavily into military culture and irreverent branding, using edgy naming and packaging while maintaining a deeper purpose, supporting veterans and first responders, with a portion of proceeds benefiting organizations like The Independence Fund. In its jerky line specifically, Grill Your Ass Off emphasizes variety and intensity, offering everything from classic smoky styles to extreme heat flavors like Carolina Reaper, reflecting its broader “go big or go home” BBQ philosophy. Overall, the brand blends lifestyle branding, charitable impact, and bold, Texas style flavor innovation to carve out a distinctive position in the modern jerky market.
This Grill Your Ass Off jerky brand is distributed under the same name of Grill Your Ass Off, located in Salada, Texas. This jerky is manufactured by Fatman Beef Jerky and is located in Hagerman, New Mexico.
The first review on Grill Your Ass Off will focus on a 2 ounce/57 gram bag of Smoky Chipotle flavored beef jerky. This bag was purchased at a Beef Jerky Outlet store in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Soy Sauce, Worcestershire Sauce, Corn Syrup, Vinegar, Liquid Smoke, Chipotle Powder, Cayenne Powder, Meat Tenderizer, Salt Cure. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat, Anchovies
The beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
The liquid marinade is comprised of soy sauce, liquid smoke, healthy vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce.
Some healthy ingredients added are chipotle powder and cayenne powder.
The sugar level is great at 1 gram of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is very high at 580mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does not qualify to have no sodium nitrite, as sodium nitrite is used outright in the cure as a preservative to lose a rating. Admirably, there is no MSG added.

GRILL YOUR ASS OFF – SMOKY CHIPOTLE BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell some sort of seasoning, but I am not sure what it is. The jerky strips are medium sized and sliced rather thin. The jerky is rigid, and there is no oily residue remains on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky, I am immediately impressed with the texture. It is pretty much exactly as our forefathers intended. The first flavors I encounter are salt, at a decent level, next to no sweetness, pepper is very prevalent (awesome), and garlic is evident as well, just not to the same degree. I believe I detect some kick, but it is very mild. It may be Chipotle I’m tasting, but I am not quite sure.
This flavor is quite tasty, and along with the solid texture, is turning out to be a heck of a succulent flavor. I can find nothing overtly wrong with this flavor, except that the Chipotle may not be coming through as intended.
I would love to give this particular flavor a 10, but I am going to deduct a point for the lack of kick from the Chipotle flavor. A well-deserved 9/10. Gentlemen?
Here is what Mark had to say about this Smoky Chipotle beef jerky flavor from Grill Your Ass Off: “Thanks Paul for the solid taste review. I mostly agree with everything that Paul stated. There is a bit of heat, as traditional Chipotle flavors are not overly spicy. The heat would rate at a 1 out of 4, or a 2 out of 5 at best on a heat scale. The smoke aspect is not as prevalent, where the smokiness is at a light level.”
“The natural flavor of beef has no hint of tasting processed. The overall taste profile is somewhat simple, with a familiar blend of soy and Worcestershire sauce. As Paul mentioned, the minimal sweetness is highly appreciated. While this jerky was highly enjoyable, it lacks some of the ‘wow’ factor. A unanimous Very Good (9/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
A 2 ounce/57 gram bag of jerky sells online for $8.99, which equates to $4.50 an ounce. That rates as an expensive price.

Bag Review
This clear plastic resealable bag has a label affixed to the front and nothing on the back. There is an illustration on the front of a cow eating jerky on top of a lit barbecue.
There are no slogans printed. Some facts printed are “High Protein Snack”, “Veteran Owned”, “Texas Made”, and “Benefits Veterans & First Responders”.
Some missing bag categories are missing soy/wheat/anchovy allergen alerts and a best before date. A lot number is displayed, which can be translated to a best before date.
