Ranch House – Spicy BBQ Beef Jerky

Thursday, September 17, 2026 Leave a Comment

Ranch House - Spicy BBQ Beef JerkyRanch House is a meat brand focused on locally sourced, high quality meats and handcrafted meat snacks. The company sources its beef from Montana ranches, with cattle that are grass-fed and grain finished, primarily Angus and Wagyu, and emphasizes supporting local ranchers and providing local jobs. Its product line includes beef jerky, snack sticks, summer sausage, and other meat products, built around three core principles: quality, personalized customer service, and innovation.

Ranch House’s beef jerky is made from whole muscle beef. It includes varieties such as Original, Pepper, Teriyaki, and Spicy BBQ, with the jerky positioned as a traditional, smoky meat snack made from premium cuts of beef. The Ranch House jerky brand is distributed under the same name, Ranch House, located in Billings, Montana. This jerky is manufactured under the name Project Meats LLC and is also located in Billings, Montana.

The first review for Ranch House will focus on a 3.3 ounce/93 gram bag of their Spicy BBQ flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as being the perfect blend of a little sweet with a little heat! The jerky bag was purchased at a convenience store in Ardmore, Alabama.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Brown Sugar, Sugar, Salt, Natural Flavors, Spices, Molasses Powder (Molasses, Maltodextrin [From Corn]), Monosodium Glutamate, Paprika, Hickory Smoke Flavor [Maltodextrin (Corn), Smoke Flavor, Silicon Dioxide], Sunflower Oil, Silicon Dioxide, Citric Acid, Salt, Spices, Dextrose, Corn Syrup, Monosodium Glutamate, Garlic, Paprika, Corn Syrup, Sodium Erythorbate, Natural Spice Extractives, Salt, Sodium Nitrite, Dextrose.

Ranch House - Spicy BBQ Beef JerkyThe beef used is ethically raised, meaning it is guaranteed to be free of growth hormones and additional antibiotics. The cattle have partial free range access to roam about and graze on grass as nature intended. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.

There is no liquid marinade used. Some people refer to it as a dry rub or old fashioned jerky.

Some healthy ingredients are added, such as garlic, spice extracts, and spices.

The sugar level is at the upper threshold of 5 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky, which is acceptable for a sweet based flavor. The salt level is high at 430mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or under per 28 grams of jerky.

This jerky does not qualify to be sodium nitrite free as sodium nitrite, along with sodium erythorbate, are used as preservatives to lose a rating. The flavor enhancer monosodium glutamate (MSG) is used to lose another rating.

Alright (6/10) – Ingredient Rating

Taste Review

RANCH HOUSE – SPICY BBQ BEEF JERKY

Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker

When I open the bag I smell mild vinegar. The jerky is large (only one very large piece) and sliced to a medium thickness. The jerky is dry and rigid, pretty much exactly as our forefathers intended. No oily residue is left on your fingers.

When I bite into the jerky, I immediately taste both the salt and the BBQ. It is coming through in spades, along with the kick. It is not an intense kick, but it is a tasty kick. I also taste decent pepper, medium sweetness, and I do detect garlic and onion in the background.

Overall, this is a very tasty flavor, and it hits on the “as advertised”. Therefore, I am very comfortable awarding this flavor a 9.5/10, which rounds up to a 10/10. Gentlemen?

Here is what Mark had to say about this Sweet BBQ beef jerky flavor from Ranch House: “Thanks Paul for the complimentary taste review. We do not quite see eye to eye here, mainly on the barbecue aspect. Paul stated that barbecue flavor came across in spades. I disagree, as there isn’t much barbecue flavor. Yes, there is a light smoked flavor in the background, but there is hardly any tomato based taste to justify a barbecue flavor. As Paul mentioned, there is a light heat in this flavor, enough to warrant naming this a Spicy based flavor.”

“There is no hint of the natural beef flavor tasting processed, and the beef does have a slightly superior flavor to your average beef. While there is sweet taste present, thankfully the sweetness does not overwhelm and distract from the overall flavor profile. While this flavor is enjoyable and tasty, there is little ‘wow’ factor present. With Paul at a 10 and myself at an 8, a Very Good (9/10) taste rating will be awarded.”

This 3.3 ounce/93 gram bag of jerky cost $11.49 (not including tax). That equates to $3.48 per ounce, which classifies as an average price.

Good (8/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

This clear resealable plastic bag has a label affixed to the front and nothing on the back. There is an illustration of a house at dusk with a mountain in the background.

There are no slogans printed. The only facts printed are “Naturally Smoked” and “40g Protein”.

The only missing bag categories are a company website and a blurb about the jerky brand or flavor.

Alright (6/10) – Bag Rating
