Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Wagyu Beef, Water, Natural Flavorings, Monosodium Glutamate, Beef Stock, Vinegar, Salt, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Nitrite.
The beef used raised on local farms is certified Wagyu, which implies that the beef is guaranteed to use 100% grass-fed beef. Wagyu beef is a highly prized, premium beef known for its exceptional marbling, tenderness, and rich flavor. As a result, the cattle are guaranteed to have free range access and be ethically raised. Therefore, the ingredient rating starts at an Excellent (10/10) rating.
The liquid marinade is comprised of water, healthy beef stock, and healthy vinegar.
The only healthy ingredient added is the vague term natural flavorings, which can contain both healthy and unhealthy ingredients.
The sugar level is perfect at 0 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is high at 570mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
This jerky does not qualify to have no sodium nitrite added as sodium nitrite is used outright as a preservative to lose a rating. This jerky does not qualify to have no MSG added because monosodium glutamate is used outright to lose another rating.

R-C RANCH – TEXAS ORIGINAL WAGYU BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag, I smell natural beef and not much else. The pieces are small to medium in size, and they are sliced to a medium thickness. The jerky is rigid and dry, just as our forefathers intended. There is no oily residue left on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky I taste incredible salt, a perfect blend of mild sweetness, along with intense pepper and decent garlic, and the unmistakable supreme taste of wagyu beef. How can you possibly go wrong with wagyu beef? This jerky could pass as a “salt” flavored jerky, a “peppered” flavor jerky, or a “garlic” flavored jerky because the flavors are so intense, probably helped by the excellent quality Wagyu beef, which is proving to augment the spices and sauces added favorably. A perfect 10/10.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Texas Original beef jerky flavor from R-C Ranch: “Thanks Paul for the positive taste review. One thing I would disagree with is the garlic being at an intense level. It’s a noticeable level for sure, and to be fair, I thought the exact same thing with this original flavor being potentially named ‘salt’, ‘black pepper’, or ‘garlic’. Clearly, the superior taste of the Wagyu is the star of show here being downright delicious tasting.”
“One other thing I disagree with is that sweetness is at a mild level. There is no sugar present in this jerky and is the reason why the natural beef flavor shines though. I cannot identify a single complaint with this flavor and a unanimous Excellent (10/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 3 ounce/85 gram bag of jerky sold for $11.97, which equates to $4.00 an ounce. That rates as an expensive price without taking into consideration that expensive Wagyu beef is used.
