This will be the second review for Strollo’s hot garlic beef jerky. The ingredient list has since been tweaked, and improved health wise. This 1.5 ounce/42 gram bag was graciously submitted for review by the owner, Michael Strollo.
Strollo’s is based out of Eatontown, New Jersey, and distributed by Strollo’s Homemade Beef Jerky. Michael does not cut corners. Instead of using 9 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky as some jerky makers do, that is 9 extra grams of beef for Strollo’s jerky to give a rich, flavorful, meaty taste. Here are some facts provided by Michael about the Strollo’s jerky brand name:
- Lowest in sodium in the market.
- Zero sugar content.
- Minimally processed.
- More beef in every bite.
- No preservatives or additives.
- We take pride in our product so much we put our name on it!
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt), Water, Teriyaki Sauce (Brewed Soy Sauce) (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt), Water, Vinegar, Sugar, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Ginger Powder, Liquid Smoke (Water, Natural Smoke Flavor, Vinegar, Molasses, Caramel Color), Red Pepper, Garlic. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat
The beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
The liquid marinade consists of soy sauce, water, teriyaki sauce, and liquid smoke. Both the soy and teriyaki sauces ingredient lists are good.
Red Peppers are used to generate the spiciness, and are healthy if eaten in moderation. The trifecta of super healthy vegetables used in powdered form is achieved with garlic powder, onion powder, and ginger powder.
It does not get any better than 0 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is extremely low at only 65mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.
As advertised, this jerky has no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservatives added. Just plain old salt is the preservative. Admirably, there is also no MSG added.

Taste Review
These hand sliced jerky strips are mostly small in size, and generally cut to a medium thickness. The texture is dry, but not overly dry, which makes this jerky relatively easy to chew. There are barely any visible signs of fat. Handling this jerky leaves no oily residue on your fingers.
The first taste detected is a great level of garlic flavor. Then a strong natural beef flavor becomes more apparent. There is a medium soy based taste, and this flavor only tastes lightly salted. As advertised, there is nothing sweet tasting about this flavor, which really allows the natural beef flavor to stand out.
As for spiciness, it is only mildly spicy at best. There is also a mild smoked taste that works very well with the natural beef flavor, and absence of a sweetness. Overall, this is a great tasting jerky.
You can purchase a six pack of this jerky for $22.50 from the Strollo’s web site. That works out to $3.83 a bag, which works out to $2.55 an ounce. That rates as a moderately expensive price. The price does get cheaper if you buy 12 or 24 bags. This jerky is a great healthy snack with a good level of garlic, and not too spicy tasting.
Very Good (9/10) – Taste Rating
Bag Review
This is a standard, somewhat small sized bag. There is a label affixed to the front, and nothing on the back. The Strollo’s logo is interesting, which shows a tough looking cow beating somebody up. On the floor is a baseball cap that states “Competitor”.
Strollo’s slogan printed on the bag is “Our Meat Can’t Be Beat”. There are facts printed such as “No Preservatives”, “Low Sodium”, “No Artificial Ingredients”, “Minimally Processed”, and “Smoke Flavor Added”.
All the important bag categories are addressed with this bag. There is no blurb about Strollo’s, but in fairness, this is a small bag only containing 1.5 ounce/42 grams.
