Note: Montreal Jerky Co. is currently being rebranded to Steeple City Jerky Company, hence the plain packaging during this transition.
The first review for Steeple City Jerky Company will be on a 3.1 ounce/90 gram bag of their Original flavored beef jerky. This jerky was kindly submitted for review by one of the owners, Tristan Zeman.
This Steeple City Jerky Company brand name is located in Laval, Quebec, and is distributed under the same name of Steeple City Jerky Company. While Tristan worked as an apprentice for a craft butcher in Laval, he learned how to make jerky. Disappointed by the freshness, ingredients, and quality of the traditional jerky makers, Tristan set out to manufacture a healthier brand of jerky. Soon he had a growing customer base from friends and family. While attending McGill University, Tristan launched Montreal Jerky Co. in the fall of 2013. However, the brand was discontinued in 2014 due to some personal issues with one of the founding members. In January 2017, Tristan re-launched Montreal Jerky Co. along with two former classmates from high school and McGill University. Sales continue to grow this year, and you can still buy their jerky sold under the name of Montreal Jerky Co. until the rebranding to Steeple City Jerky Company is complete.

The beef used is guaranteed to be ethically raised, meaning free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. There is no guarantee that the cattle have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.
There is no liquid marinade used here. You could call this style old fashioned, or a dry rub.
Some people call black pepper the king of spices.
There is no nutrition facts table provided. As a result, the exact sugar and salt levels are unknown.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservative used is salt. Commendably, there is no MSG added.

Taste Review
These strips of jerky are small to medium in size, and are sliced thin. The texture is sort of dry, and is quite chewy. There are some visible signs of fat, and handling this jerky leaves no oily residue on your fingers.
One of the first flavors detected is a mild level of black pepper. Blended in is a mild level of sweetness. A mild level of saltiness mixes well with the black pepper.
For an Original flavor, there is a decent amount of natural beef flavor present. While sort of on the plain side, this is a very tasty flavor. Overall, an addictive snack, which is consumed in no time.
A 4 ounce/113 gram bag sells for $10.00. That works out to $2.50 an ounce, which rates as an average price. This flavor is recommended if you would enjoy a good old fashioned original flavor.
