Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Brown Sugar, Teriyaki Sauce (Soy Sauce [Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt], Wine, Sugar, Vinegar, Salt, Spices, Onion Powder, Succinic Acid, Garlic, Sodium Benzoate), Seasoning (Salt, Spice, Garlic, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Potassium Sorbate), Garlic, Vinegar, Onion Powder, Liquid Smoke, Cure Mix (Salt, Sodium Nitrite). Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat
Sierra Madre Provision Co. uses ranch raised beef, which means the cattle have free range access to graze on grass. The cattle are also ethically raised, meaning that the cows received no growth hormones or additional antibiotics. As a result, the highest jerky ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10).
The liquid marinade here consists of an average teriyaki sauce, healthy vinegar, and liquid smoke.
Some healthy ingredients are added such as spice, garlic, and onion powder.
There is no nutrition facts table provided. As a result, the exact sugar and salt levels are unknown.
This flavor does not qualify to be sodium nitrite free, as sodium nitrite itself is used as a preservative to lose a rating. This flavor does not qualify to have no MSG added because the highly processed unhealthy flavor enhancer hydrolyzed soy protein is used to lose another rating.

Taste Review
Written by guest jerky reviewer Stéphane Leclerc
The Sierra Madre Provision Co. – Sweet & Spicy Beef Jerky has a taste reminiscent of a Teriyaki flavor with a little bit of a spicy kick. The moderate amount of sweetness and spiciness take notice from the beginning and they keep developing without really overwhelming the other flavors. The sweetness level is acceptable for a sweet and spicy flavor. The spiciness is reasonable and it gradually builds up. The smokiness also adds nicely to the overall good taste of this jerky.
Paul said: “The heat is kicking it up a notch and it is approximately a 2/5 on the heat scale. This jerky is sweet but not too sweet. It is spicy but not too spicy, it is exactly as advertised!” I like this jerky too and I agree with Paul all the way!
The garlic and onion flavor is slightly noticeable and the saltiness is at a mild level. The natural beef flavor is present, although not overly emphasized. This is not a big surprise and it is to be expected with a Sweet and Spicy flavor.
These strips of jerky are large and sliced between medium and thick. The texture is somewhat dry and requires some effort to chew. The thicker strips paired with the pleasant texture of the meat make this jerky more interesting and fun to chew. After tearing a few strips of this jerky, there is a slight residue left on the fingers.
This flavor delivers on the sweetness and spiciness and a more pronounced accent on the garlic and onion would certainly develop a fuller flavor profile. This jerky is very good as it is and as we kept chewing more strips, this flavor kept growing on us more and more.
This jerky is addictive and will not disappoint. We’d certainly recommend this jerky to any fans of both sweet & spicy and fans of Teriyaki flavors. This flavor is really enjoyable and quite addictive. This Sierra Madre Provision Co. – Sweet & Spicy Beef Jerky easily achieves a 9/10 taste rating in our book.
This 3.25 ounce/92 gram bag sells for $6.99, which works out to $2.15 an ounce. That rates as a cheap price.

Bag Review
This is a fairly tall bag. The front is gold colored, and the back is silver colored with nothing on the back. There is a label affixed to the front, plus a separate sticker that states “Sweet n’ Spicy”. The scenic picture on this bag depicts mountains, including a few California palm trees.
There are no slogans printed on this bag. The only fact printed on this bag is “Liquid Smoke Flavoring Added”.
There are a few bag categories missing, such as a blurb about Sierra Madre Provision Co. and a nutrition facts table. Kudos to Sierra Madre Provision Co., where they provide a toll free phone number for customer inquiries.
