The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company began as a hobby (Greatest of All Time). The founder, J.R. Towe, received a dehydrator for Christmas, and started experimenting with different jerky recipes until he perfected the texture and flavor. After a few years, J.R. decided to take his taste tests one step further, so he ordered packaging from Amazon. Very proud of the new look, he sent a sample to an old friend, which received very positive feedback.
The thought of J.R.s beef jerky being available for everyone to enjoy was an exciting prospect. But soon enough, thoughts of doubt and failure took over, causing him to dismiss the idea altogether. After all, he had a great job with a great company – a place he’d worked for nearly 20 years – and he knew building a business from the ground up would be a massive undertaking for one person.
One day, a friend asked him why he wasn’t selling his jerky. After explaining everything it would take to make it work – and everything that could go wrong – his friend asked, “But what if it could work?” That’s when J.R. realized he’d given up before he even started. The very next day J.R. began working on a plan to build a jerky company.
In December 2018, The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company was launched. Recently, the bag designs have been updated, and Korean BBQ, Citrus Teriyaki, and Whiskey Rebellion beef jerky flavors were introduced. This The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company is distributed under the same of The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company, they are located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The next review on The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company will focus on a 2.5 ounce/71 gram bag of their Korean BBQ flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as being the hallmark of Korean cuisine; savory, tangy, and sweet, with the toasty aroma of sesame oil lingering in the background. The jerky was kindly submitted for review by the founder, J.R. Towe.
Beef, Tamari Sauce (Water, Sugar, Soybeans, Salt), White Sugar, Brown Sugar, Sesame Oil, Honey, Garlic Puree, Granulated Garlic, Granulated Onion, Sesame Seeds, Green Onion, Ground Black Pepper, Liquid Hickory Smoke Flavor, Ground Ginger, Mustard Powder, Allspice. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Sesame
The beef used here is organic. That implies the cattle are ethically raised with no growth hormones or antibiotics. The cattle have 80% free range access to graze on grass the way nature was intended. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is an Excellent (10/10) rating.
The sugar level is quite high at 11 grams of sugar per 28 gram of jerky to lose a rating. For a sweet based flavor as we have here, our preference is 5 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is also high at 590mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
Commendably, this jerky has no sodium nitrite added, or any other similar unhealthy preservative. Instead, salt is the main preservative used. With further kudos to The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company, this jerky qualifies to have no MSG added.
THE G.O.A.T BEEF JERKY COMPANY – KOREAN BBQ BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag, I smell beef and sesame seeds. The pieces vary in size and thickness, from small to medium in size, to medium to thick in thickness. The jerky is soft and chewy, and it leaves a fair amount of oily residue on your fingers.
I’m going to pass on commenting (or rating) the sesame seeds, because I am biased against them, but I also realize that all Korean ribs are sprinkled with sesame seeds.
The first flavors I encounter are salt, a bit too much sweet, but that is to be expected with the Korean BBQ flavor, so I will overlook that. I also taste garlic, sesame (again, I will disregard), ketchup (or a very similar flavor), and the unmistakable delectable flavor of Korean ribs. That really jumps out at me, and therefore, it is coming through exactly as advertised.
I happen to be a big fan of Korean ribs, if they are done up right, and this particular flavor is coming across perfectly. So, in keeping consistent with our policies here at jerkyingredients.com, I am duly inclined to award this Korean BBQ flavor as a 10/10. A very enthusiastic two thumbs up!!👍👍 Gentlemen?
Here is what Stéphane had to say: “Good Job, Paul! I am also a big fan of Korean Barbecue and The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company Korean BBQ Beef Jerky is a beautiful rendition. There is an authentic feel to it and the flavor is top notch. The texture is nicely tender and chewy and delivers a tasty and rich flavor profile. The sesame seeds are traditional and add a pleasant contrast in textures.”
“I really enjoyed this G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company Korean BBQ Beef Jerky and I wouldn’t change a thing. It is perfect as it is and I also award an Excellent 10\10 taste rating A+.”
Here is what Mark had to say about this Korean Barbecue beef jerky flavor from The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company: “Thanks Stéphane and Paul for the great taste reviews. It is hard to argue with either of you. Agreed with Paul in that this flavor is arguably too sweet tasting. However, a Korean Barbecue flavor by nature is sweet tasting, but deemed to be at an acceptable level. A high quality tamari soy sauce comes across as tasting similar to ketchup in jerky. Also agreed that this Korean Barbecue flavor comes across at tasting authentic.”
“This jerky was shared between eight people with only positive feedback. The most common comment was that this Korean Barbecue beef jerky is a treat to eat.”
This black plastic resealable bag has everything imprinted on the bag itself, both on the front and back. There is a high resolution picture on the front of Korean beef with garlic, green onions, ginger, soy sauce, and sesame seeds.
Some slogans printed on this bag are “The Greatest of All Time”, and “There Can Only Be One G.O.A.T.” Some facts printed are “Handcrafted”, and “Natural Smoke Flavor Added”.
The only missing bag category is a transparent window to view the actual jerky. Printed on the bag is a great blurb about The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company. The hashtag #showusyourgoat is displayed along with Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter images.
