The next review on Beefy Boys will focus on a 2 ounce/56 gram bag of their original crispy flavored beef jerky. This intentionally crispy/crunchy/almost brittle jerky debuted not so long ago, and has been a huge hit ever since. Beefy Boys has been challenged just to keep this flavor in stock. Beefy Boys plans to launch this jerky in Monterey County, California Safeway stores next month, but keeps running out of stock. Jerky with a crispy texture is known as a ‘West Coast’ style of jerky, and popular in California, New Mexico, Hawaii, and pockets elsewhere in the U.S.A. This bag was kindly submitted by the Beefy Boys Jerky Co. team.
Beefy Boys started with friends Craig Bray and Tony Souza making jerky together at age 11, where Craig is the chef behind all of their flavors. Craig and Tony officially launched the Beefy Boys jerky brand name in 1999. In 2013, Top 10 Produce LLC acquired the Beefy Boys jerky brand. Every ingredient used is guaranteed to have been sourced within 120 miles, which is truly awesome. This Beefy Boys brand name is distributed by Top 10 Produce LLC, and they are located in Salinas, California.

Ingredients: Beef, Water, Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt, Sodium Benzoate), Red Wine Vinegar, Brown Sugar, Black Pepper, Seasoned Salt (including Maltodextrin), Spices and other Flavorings. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat
The beef used is ethically raised, meaning it is guaranteed to be free of growth hormones and additional antibiotics. Also, these locally raised cattle have free range access being pasture raised, and then finished with grains. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Very Good (9/10) rating.
The liquid marinade is comprised of a decent soy sauce, very healthy red wine vinegar, and water. Red wine contains an antioxidant named resveratrol, which offers multiple health benefits.
There are healthy spices used, which includes black pepper. Some people call black pepper the king of spices.
There is no nutrition facts table provided. As a result, the exact sugar and salt levels are unknown.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservative used is salt. Admirably, there is no MSG added.

BEEFY BOYS – CRISPY BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag, I smell pepper and natural beef. Oh boy, I think we have a winner here. Pepper and natural beef? Great start! I have to keep this a family show, so no mention of tumescence here. Okay, tumescence means erection, and my taste buds are having an erection here. Sue me!!
All kidding aside, I detect salt, copious amounts of pepper (I’m in heaven), so much so that this could have easily passed as a peppered flavor. Very light sweet (thank goodness), light garlic, and also copious amounts of natural beef. You can see the pepper flakes on the jerky. Somehow most of the pepper flakes are still on the jerky. I’d love to know how they do that.
I’m also a huge fan of the crispy texture. Our forefathers would turn in their graves if they seen and tasted some of the poor excuses for beef jerky that have come along. But then, just as in a desert, occasionally you stumble upon an oasis, of which this particular jerky definitely qualifies, it is beyond scrumptious. This jerky is like crack in a bag. I bow in humble servitude to the creators of Beefy Boys crispy original beef jerky. If I’m not careful, I may soon have to attend JA, Jerky Anonymous, because I’m hooked on this jerky. ‘Hello, my name is Paul, and I’m a Beefy Boys crispy original beef jerky addict…’
Gentlemen, no one’s stealing signs here, a 2-out, bottom-of-the 9th, full count grand slam home run to win the World Series here, a 10/10, or much more if I could. Two thumbs way up!!!👍👍 Houston Astros, eat your hearts out…
Here is what Stéphane had to say :“The Beefy Boys – Crispy Beef Jerky is an exquisite delicacy. The flavor profile opens up with a healthy taste of red wine vinegar. This acidity provides great freshness to the product while enhancing the other flavors. The intensity of the seasoning and especially the cracked black pepper tends to vary between strips. This is not an issue in my book; the jerky remains a very distinct and very flavorful original flavor. These variations do bring even more interest to the product in each and every bite. The smokiness also provides positive notes to this jerky.”
“The texture is unusually crispy, it does add a favorable mouth feel and it accentuates the flavor. This uncommon texture is awesome and it makes all the flavors explode in your mouth like fireworks on the 4th of July.”
“The Beefy Boys incredible formula comes together and really adds a plump and juicy cherry on top of the Sundae.”
“Special thanks to the Beefy Boys, their kind generosity allowed us to share this impressive bounty with several other jerky enthusiasts. Some were more seasoned than others but most were unanimous and absolutely loved this magnificent and delectable meaty treat.”
“As such, the Beefy Boys – Crispy Beef Jerky is a fabulous jerky in every way and it truly deserves a solid Excellent 10/10 taste rating.”
Here is what Mark had to say about this original crispy beef jerky flavor from Beefy Boys: “Thanks Stéphane and Paul for the entertaining and descriptive taste reviews. Hard to disagree with either of you. I too found this flavor to be highly addictive to the point where the bag is finished before you know it, leaving you wanting more. Much more!”
“Beefy Boys very generously submitted 10 bags for review, which allowed us to share this jerky between 14 different people. Sadly all 10 bags have been devoured. Most people loved the flavor and texture, but the crispy texture is certainly not for everyone. Keeping personal biases aside, this crispy jerky is a winner, and shame on the Houston Astros for cheating to win the 2017 World Series.”
A 2 ounce/56 gram bag sells online for $7.99. That works out to $4.00 an ounce, which rates as a pretty expensive price.

Bag Review
This clear resealable plastic bag has two labels affixed to the front, and nothing on the back. The Beefy Boys logo has a cows head in the middle of a circle, where the red and gold colors are by no coincidence the same colors as the San Francisco 49’ers NFL team.
There are no slogans or facts printed on this bag.
There are some bag categories missing such as the jerky weight not stated in grams, a blurb about the jerky or flavor, a best before date, and nutrition facts table. To the credit of Beefy Boys, a toll free phone number is provided for customer inquiries. A QR Code is printed that links to the www.top10fresh.com web site, which gives details on the farmer or rancher, it does not get any better than that.
