The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company began as a hobby (Greatest of All Time). The founder, J.R. Towe, received a dehydrator for Christmas, and started experimenting with different jerky recipes until he perfected the texture and flavor. After a few years, J.R. decided to take his taste tests one step further, so he ordered packaging from Amazon. Very proud of the new look, he sent a sample to an old friend, which received very positive feedback.
The thought of J.R.s beef jerky being available for everyone to enjoy was an exciting prospect. But soon enough, thoughts of doubt and failure took over, causing him to dismiss the idea altogether. After all, he had a great job with a great company – a place he’d worked for nearly 20 years – and he knew building a business from the ground up would be a massive undertaking for one person.
One day, a friend asked him why he wasn’t selling his jerky. After explaining everything it would take to make it work – and everything that could go wrong – his friend asked, “But what if it could work?” That’s when J.R. realized he’d given up before he even started. The very next day J.R. began working on a plan to build a jerky company.
In December 2018, The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company was launched. Recently, the bag designs have been updated, and Korean BBQ, Citrus Teriyaki, and Whiskey Rebellion beef jerky flavors were introduced. This The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company is distributed under the same name of The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company, and they are located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The next review on The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company will focus on a 2.5 ounce/71 gram bag of their Whiskey flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as being whiskey infused savory goodness. The jerky was graciously submitted for review by the founder, J.R. Towe.
Ingredient Review
Beef, Brown Sugar, Whiskey, Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt), Apple Cider Vinegar, Worcestershire Sauce (Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Distilled Vinegar, Worcestershire Sauce Base [Distilled Vinegar, Molasses, Corn Syrup, Water, Salt, Caramel Color, Garlic Powder, Spices, Tamarind, Natural Flavor, Sulfiting Agent], Salt, Citric Acid), Lemon Juice (Lemon Juice Concentrate, Lemon Emulsion, Sodium Benzoate), Liquid Hickory Smoke Flavoring, Cayenne, Granulated Garlic, Ground Pepper. Allergen Warnings: Soy, Wheat
The beef used here is organic. That implies the cattle are ethically raised with no growth hormones or antibiotics. The cattle have 80% free range access to graze on grass the way nature was intended. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is an Excellent (10/10) rating.
The liquid marinade consists of whiskey, a decent soy sauce, a poor Worcestershire sauce, super healthy apple cider vinegar, liquid hickory smoke, and healthy lemon juice. The Worcestershire sauce uses the cheap highly processed sweetener high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) to lose a rating.
Some healthy ingredients are added such as granulated garlic, cayenne pepper, and ground black pepper.
The sugar level is respectable at 2 grams of sugar per 28 gram of jerky. The salt level is very low at 50mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.
Commendably, this jerky has no sodium nitrite added, or any other similar unhealthy preservative. Instead, salt is the main preservative used, and apple cider vinegar to a lesser extent. With further kudos to The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company, this jerky qualifies to have no MSG added.

THE G.O.A.T BEEF JERKY COMPANY – WHISKEY REBELLION BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag, I smell a juice, possibly a lemon juice. The pieces are various in size, and they are cut in various thicknesses as well, from thin to medium to thick, depending on which piece you take out of the bag. The jerky is a bit soft, and also a bit moist, likely because of all the juices and sauces put in. It leaves no oily residue on your fingers though.
I’m definitely picking up on the juices, from the soy sauce to the Worcestershire sauce, to the to the Apple cider vinegar to the lemon juice, but, unfortunately, not much on the whiskey. And I was looking so forward to tasting the whiskey, being a bit of a self-proclaimed semi-expert on the whiskeys, from the rye whiskey to the Scotch whiskey, as well as the sour mash whiskey (bourbon), but I can’t really say that I am picking up much, if any, in this flavor of jerky.
Now don’t get me wrong here, this jerky is quite tasty, but I am not picking up on the booze.
I taste salt, pepper, sweet (possibly a little extreme on the sweet), garlic, onion, lemon juice, along with a slight kick in the background, is that from the cayenne peppers possibly?
It’s terribly unfortunate that I am not picking up on the whiskey flavor, I so wish I was, but it is what it is, and I can only go by what I’m tasting, or in this case, what I’m not tasting. Sorry G.O.A.T., normally your jerky blows me away, and while I can certainly justify a 9/10, due to the lack of a whiskey taste, I can go no higher. Gentlemen?
Here is what Stéphane had to say: “The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company – Whiskey Rebellion is a full flavored meaty treat. The jerky is rich and decadent, the whiskey flavor comes through nicely as it complements the flavor profile perfectly without taking away from each subtle note.”
“A light sprinkle of cayenne really hits and wakes up each and every little taste bud in a wonderful way and it kicks the whole concerto into overdrive.”
“The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company – Whiskey Rebellion is at its peak when freshly enjoyed and should be called a World Wonder. It’s a definite Excellent 10\10 taste rating.”
Here is what Mark had to say about this Whiskey Rebellion beef jerky flavor from The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company: “Thanks Stéphane and Paul for the great taste reviews. To date, we have reviewed over 15 whiskey based flavors. Any whiskey flavor, or an alcohol flavor for that matter in general is typically difficult to pull off. However, The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company does a respectable job here with retaining the authentic taste of whiskey. It is a mystery why Paul is not able to detect the flavor of whiskey, or ever in any whiskey based jerky flavor being an expert in the matter.”
“This jerky was shared between ten people with various reactions. The sweetness level is arguably too high. Stéphane and I have had many arguments over the years if a jerky flavor is too sweet tasting or not, but I will give The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company the benefit of the doubt here.”
“Also true that the thickness of these jerky strips are all over the map. As a result, the whiskey rebellion flavor is not quite consistent from strip to strip, including the texture. Otherwise a great job by The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company for a memorable tasting whiskey flavor with a wonderful touch of cayenne pepper.”
A 2.5 ounce/71 gram bags sells online for $9.99. That works out to $4.00 an ounce, which rates as a pretty expensive price.

Bag Review
This black plastic resealable bag has everything imprinted on the bag itself, both on the front and back. There is a high resolution picture on the front of beef jerky, a shot glass of whiskey on the rocks, lemon, granulated garlic, and soy sauce.
Some slogans printed on this bag are “The Greatest of All Time”, and “There Can Only Be One G.O.A.T.” Some facts printed are “Handcrafted”, and “Natural Smoke Flavor Added”.
The only missing bag category is a transparent window to view the actual jerky. Printed on the bag is a great blurb about The G.O.A.T. Beef Jerky Company. The hashtag #showusyourgoat is displayed along with Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter images.
