This PREVAIL Jerky brand name is distributed by Reclaim Real LLC, and they are located in Chicago, Illinois.
The next review on PREVAIL Jerky will focus on a 2.25 ounce/64 gram bag of their umami flavored 100% grass-fed beef jerky. This flavor is described as using coconut aminos made from aged coconut sap to create this uniquely alluring flavor.
Umami may seem an odd flavor name. Umami is a category of taste in food (besides sweet, sour, salt, and bitter), corresponding to the flavor of glutamates, especially monosodium glutamate. This umami flavor is a teriyaki flavor. The USDA would not allow PREVAIL Jerky to name this flavor teriyaki because soy is not used. The jerky was kindly submitted for review by Co-Founder & Chief Creative Manager, Ashley Kohn.

Taste Review
PREVAIL JERKY – UMAMI 100% GRASS-FED BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag, I smell (what I believe to be) a powerful soy smell, but I already know it isn’t soy, hence the ‘umami’ flavor, meaning teriyaki flavor without soy. The pieces are small in size, but they are sliced quite thick. The jerky is medium soft and dry, and it leaves no oily residue on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky strip, I am met with light salt, strong sweet, mild garlic, a tiny hint of onion in the background, but not much in the natural beef category. This flavor is coming across as a bit processed and not very flavourful to boot.
As I bite into another strip, I am met with the same mediocre flavor, nothing to write home about. I am trying to leave my personal biases aside, but this flavor has nothing convincing me that I want ‘more.’ Hence, my first dive into ‘umami’ flavored jerky is leaving me uninspired and unconvinced. This review is reading like a 7, and that’s about where I’m at with this flavor. This Polish beer I’m drinking is impressing me quite well (ZUBR). Sorry guys, a 7/10 is about all I got here.
Here is what Mark M. had to say: “I’d give this flavor a 10 taste rating. This is something that I would buy.”
Here is what Mark had to say about this umami beef jerky flavor from PREVAIL Jerky: “Thanks guys for the taste reviews. While Stéphane has not submitted his taste review yet, I believe he is at a 10 rating. I have to side with Paul here. The natural taste of beef does not resemble homemade jerky. There is a distinct, lightly processed flavor present from the beef. Granted, this may be the least ‘processed tasting’ of all the big private labelers out there.”
“As for the teriyaki aspect of the flavor, there is some sweetness present that is borderline high. Some unfamiliar flavors blend in, but the overall taste profile does a decent job of capturing a unique take on a teriyaki flavor. I might have guessed that soy was used. With two 10 ratings, a 7, and myself at a 7 rating, a Good (8/10) taste rating seems warranted here.”
This 2.25 ounce/64 gram bag of jerky sells online for $7.99. That works out to $3.55 an ounce, which barely rates at an expensive price for 100% grass-fed beef.
