Raincoast Trading was launched in 1995. They specialize in Pacific albacore, sockeye salmon, pink salmon, skipjack tuna, and sardine products, with jerky being one of their products. Founded by a multi-generation fishing family on the West Coast of Canada, Raincoast Trading believes that sustainable seafood can and should be accessible. Canned wild seafood can be mind-blowing, eye-opening, and uber-delicious.
In their club, they are VIP: Very Impressive Protein. This Raincoast Trading jerky brand name is distributed under the name of Raincoast Trading Inc., and it is located in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.
The first review for Raincoast Trading will focus on a 1.76 ounce/50 gram bag of their smoky sweet chipotle flavoured wild salmon chopped & formed jerky. This flavour is described as a chomp is a romp of sweet ‘n smoky goodness paired with plentiful protein courtesy of their wild Pacific Northwest salmon. The bag was purchased at a Walmart store in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Minced Wild Chum Salmon and/or Pink Salmon, Organic Sugar, Sea Salt, Canola Oil (non GMO), Liquid Smoke, Yeast Extract, Chipolte Chile.
Of any type of jerky, wild salmon might rank the healthiest of them all. Salmon is known to be very healthy, and it is especially loaded with the fatty acid Omega 3. As a result, the ingredient rating starts at an Excellent (10/10) rating.
The texture of this jerky is chopped and formed, or something similar. As a result, without having a natural whole sliced strip of jerky, two ingredient ratings are deducted.
The only healthy ingredient added is chipotle chili peppers, where hot peppers are healthy if eaten in moderation, which flushes toxins out of the body.
The sugar level is high at 7 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky to lose a rating. Our preference is 5 grams of sugar or less for a sweet based flavour as we have here. The salt level is high at 530mg of salt per 30 grams of jerky. However, the salt level is ignored as healthy, minimally processed sea salt is used.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite added or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, sea salt is the main preservative. Commendably, this jerky qualifies to have no MSG added.
Decent (7/10) – Ingredient Rating

RAINCOAST TRADING – SMOKY SWEET CHIPOTLE SALMON JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Stéphane Leclerc
The Raincoast Trading Smoky Sweet Chipotle Wild Salmon Jerky is exactly what I’d expect from a great salmon jerky. The salmon flavour is fresh and well accentuated by its smokiness. The jerky strips are tender, and they have a lean and pleasant chew. The Chipotle and sweetness are well-balanced and remain in the background where they do not compete with the great salmon flavour.
This jerky has an amazing flavour profile, it is deep and rich in flavour and the taste keeps giving. I consider this a home run in my book; this jerky nails it on every front. The Raincoast Trading Smoky Sweet Chipotle Wild Salmon Jerky flavour, aroma, and texture are exceptional and I rate this gem a 10/10 Taste Rating.
I’ve almost cried once I finished my last strip, and I wished it could be Groundhog Day all over again. Cheers!

When I rip open the bag I am met with a pungent waft of fish. The “jerky” is uniform in shape, size, and thickness. The pieces are long, thin, and dry. There is no oily residue left on your fingers.
The first flavours that I encounter are salt, sweet, slight garlic, slight pepper, and a very strong flavour of fish. I wouldn’t necessarily say salmon, but definitely very fishy. The chipotle flavour is coming through quite well, it is definitely noticeable, but it does not seem to marry up well with the fish flavour.
Overall I am anything but impressed with this flavour, it is not anything to write home about. No, let me rephrase that. It is actually quite a lousy mixture, fish, and chipotle don’t mix well. I am very much less than impressed, and I can’t go any higher than a 3/10.
Stephane, could you please finish the rest of my bag? I can’t eat anymore.
Here is what Mark had to say about this smoky sweet chipotle salmon jerky flavour from Raincoast Trading: “Thanks Paul and Stéphane for the diverse taste reviews. As a disclaimer, I am not a fan of seafood, which includes fish jerky. Salmon jerky is typically one of the fishier-tasting fish jerkies out there. However, the fishy taste is not overwhelming here but still prominent.”
“The smoked flavour blends in well, and there is just a tiny kick of heat present from the chipotle peppers. The texture is very dry that reminds me of what it would be like to eat sawdust. With Paul at a 3 rating, Stéphane at a 10 rating, and myself at an 8 taste rating, we feel that a Decent (7/10) taste rating is warranted”.
This 1.76 ounce/50 gram bag cost $4.97 that equates to $2.82 an ounce, which rates as a cheap price.
Bag Review
This professional-looking resealable bag has everything imprinted directly on the bag itself, both on the front and back. The front has a high-resolution picture of water with trees in the background. This bag is vacuum-sealed, the best way to keep jerky fresh tasting.
There are no slogans printed on this bag. Some facts printed on this bag are “26g Protein Per Bag”, “Wild Salmon Jerky”, “Processed in Canada”, “GMO & Gluten Free”, “Background Image Designed by Whatwolf – Freepik.com”, and “Learn Why… We Are Not Your Typical Seafood”.
There are no bag categories missing. As per Canadian law, French translations are provided. There is a good blurb printed on the back about this flavour.
