Ingredient Review
Ingredients: Beef, Water, Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder, Distilled Vinegar, Molasses, Sodium Nitrate, Tomato Paste, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Honey, Pepper, Hot Pepper Extract, Cayenne Pepper.
The beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.
This liquid marinade used here is comprised of water, super healthy distilled vinegar, tomato paste, and healthy honey.
Some healthy ingredients added are garlic powder, cayenne pepper, hot pepper extract, and black pepper.
The sugar level is acceptable at 5 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky for a sweet based flavor, as we have here. The lousy sweetener high fructose corn syrup is used to lose a rating. The salt level is high at 490mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky to lose another rating. Our preference is 350mg of salt or less per 28 grams of jerky.
Unhealthy sodium nitrate is used as a preservative to lose a rating. Admirably, this jerky has no MSG added.

Taste Review
STEVIE G JERKY – HOT HONEY BBQ BEEF JERKY
Written by guest jerky reviewer Paul Rekker
When I open the bag I smell very little, maybe slight soy. It looks extruded, very similar to other chopped and formed jerky. The jerky is very soft and easily breaks apart. There is no oily residue left on your fingers.
When I bite into the jerky I am met with the taste of salt, at a decent level, sweet, a little too sweet for my liking, but it has honey in the title, and it is not overpowering, so we will reserve judgment for the time being. I am very much picking up on the heat, it is a noticeable and flavorful heat, I like it. The honey is coming through as advertised, as well as the heat, but the BBQ flavor is too faint to be included in the description.
I am generally in favor of the flavor, but not so much the texture. So that’s one point deducted for the texture (it’s too soft and brittle) and one point deducted for the lack of BBQ flavor. Therefore, I can go no higher than an 8/10.
Here is what Mark had to say about this Hot Honey BBQ extruded beef jerky flavor from Stevie G Jerky: “Thanks Paul for the honest taste review. It is not fair to deduct a point for being too soft when Stevie G Jerky slogan is “Tender is an Understatement”. We both agree that the heat comes across nicely and is a great addition. One aspect that I do not pick up well is the honey flavor. There is some sweetness present without going overboard but not a well-defined honey flavor.”
“I disagree that there is a lack of BBQ flavor, which is very tasty. While Paul is not a big fan of BBQ sauces, I have long enjoyed Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce with jerky. In fact, between the honey, hot, and BBQ, I found that BBQ was the most noticeable flavor. With Paul at an 8 rating and myself at a 9 rating, a Very Good (9/10) taste rating will be awarded.”
This 2.5 ounce/71 gram bag of jerky sells online for $6.99. That’s $2.40 an ounce, which rates as a cheap price.
