The next review for CopperNose will be on a 1.8 ounce/50 gram bag of their smokey flavored 100% grass-fed beef jerky. This flavor is described as a comfort food for Jack Coppernose in the 18th century while distilling moonshine. The bag was graciously submitted for review by one of the co-owners, Daniel Derry.
This CopperNose jerky brand is distributed by CopperNose Inc., located in Burford, Oxfordshire, England. The idea started with Daniels’ brother Liam in his final year at the Royal Agricultural University in 2015, where he competed, and placed runner-up in the UK Grand Idea Competition. Daniel had spent the last 5 years sourcing out ingredients for their jerky, and came back home in 2015. In March 2016, their operations expanded to deliver their craft jerky both at home and abroad.

Commendably, the beef used is 100% grass-fed using a British silverside cut of beef, where it can be traced back to the farm. The cattle are ethically raised, meaning no growth hormones or additional antibiotics are administered.
The liquid marinade is comprised of a good soy sauce, a good Teriyaki sauce, a decent Worcestershire sauce, and liquid mesquite smoke. It is disappointing to see that the cheap sweetener corn syrup is used in the Worcestershire sauce. In fairness, not much is used by weight, and corn based ingredients are challenging to avoid in sauces.
The vast majority of this ingredient list is sauce based. Healthy black pepper and garlic powder are used.
While there is a detailed nutrition facts table provided, it would appear that things are measured differently in Europe compared to North America. Based on the taste alone, there is almost no sweetness, and the salt is at a moderate level.
This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservative used is salt. Admirably, there is also no MSG added.

These strips of beef are mostly small in size, and are sliced to a medium thickness. The texture is dry, where chewing this jerky is still at a reasonable level. There are no visible signs of fat, and handling this jerky leaves no oily residue on your fingers.
There is a myriad of flavors that are apparent almost immediately. Soy, smoke, garlic, onion, black pepper, and salt are the most noticeable. The salt level is moderate, and the sweetness in minimal. There is a sort of teriyaki flavor from the wine, but more resembles an original based flavor.
There is a decent smoked flavor present. For a flavor advertised as Smokey, it is not quite at a strong enough level by North American standards. Consistently, there is a good deal of natural beef flavor, Overall, this reminds you of good old fashioned beef jerky.
This 1.8 ounce/50 gram bag sells online for £3.65. That works out to £2.02 an ounce, which rates as an average price. Considering that 100% grass-fed beef is used, it would more be considered a cheap price. This jerky is certainly recommended for people who enjoy the taste of beef, and of course healthy 100% grass-fed beef.
