Kingmade Jerky – Classic Recipe Beef Jerky

Monday, January 25, 2016 3 Comments

Kingmade Jerky - Classic Recipe Beef JerkyThe first review on Kingmade Jerky will focus on a 2.25 ounce/63 gram bag of their classic recipe flavored beef jerky. This bag was kindly submitted for review by the president, Jeff King.

This Kingmade Jerky brand is distributed by Kingmade, and based out of McKinney, Texas. Jeff has been a caddy in the PGA and LPGA tours since 1998. Frustrated with jerky brands that left you wanting more, Jeff decided to make his own jerky. His jerky quickly became popular on the golf tours, where the demand warranted starting his own jerky brand. In August 2013, Jeff launched the Kingmade Jerky brand. Many of the top professional golfers in the world are fans of his jerky, where you could say that Kingmade Jerky is the unofficial jerky brand of professional golf. The jerky is advertised as being crafted with tender cuts of premium beef flank steak, artfully seasoned, and slow cooked to perfection. It is also advertised to be very low in sugar and salt, which is quite true.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Water, Soy Sauce (Water, Soybeans, Salt, Wheat Flour, Potassium Sorbate), Natural Smoke Flavoring, Brown Sugar (Sugar, Cane Molasses), Minced Garlic (Garlic, Water, Citric Acid), Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Black Pepper.    Allergen Warnings: Soy,
Wheat

Kingmade Jerky - Classic Recipe Beef JerkyThe flank steak used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.

Kingmade Jerky - Classic Recipe Beef JerkyThe liquid marinade consists of just water and soy sauce. It is not great to see that potassium sorbate is used in the soy sauce as a preservative, but it was never designed to withstand the drying process in making jerky.

Kingmade Jerky - Classic Recipe Beef JerkyThere are healthy spices used such as garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Super healthy garlic from the allium family is used, which interestingly aids people differently depending on the individual body’s needs.

The sugar level used here is highly respectable at only 1 gram of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. The salt level is extremely low at only 90mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky.

This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservative. Instead, salt is the main preservative used. With further kudos, there is no MSG added.

Good (8/10) – Ingredient Rating

Taste Review

These strips of jerky are mostly small in size, and sliced to a medium thickness. They have a great dry texture, but not so dry in that it is tough to chew. Flank steak is known to be easier to chew compared to the typical inside or outside round cuts of beef used with most other jerky brands. There are no visible signs of fat, and handling this jerky leaves no oily residue on your fingers.

The first taste detected is a moderate level of soy. There is a light, but good level of onion and garlic. With almost a total lack of sweetness, there is a decent amount of natural beef flavor, just the way an original based flavor should be.

All along there is a moderate level of smokiness, which is always a great contrast with non-sweet tasting jerky. The salt level is light, and there is a faint black pepper flavor. Overall, a very tasty jerky, where you can tell it was expertly marinated having so much flavor.

Ordering online you can purchase six 2.25 ounce/63 gram bags for $42.99. That works out to $3.18 an ounce, which rates as an expensive price. The price is cheaper if you order larger quantities. This jerky is recommended from both taste and ingredient perspectives to people who enjoy the natural flavor of beef, where this flavor is akin to eating a steak.

Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating

Bag Review

This is a standard sized resealable bag. Everything is imprinted directly on the bag, both on the front and the back. The Kingmade Jerky logo is an awesome looking picture of a cow in golf attire. This logo certainly makes the bag stand out.

Their slogan is “Premium Beef Jerky for a Better Class of Carnivore”. Some facts printed on this bag are “Flank Steak Beef Jerky”, “8g Protein Per Serving”, “No Nitrites Added”, “97% Fat Free”, “No MSG”, “1g Total Carbs Per Serving”, “Premium Beef”, “Smoke Flavor Added”, and “Jeff King is the Gentleman Behind the Jerky”. There is also a heat meter, described as “The Gentleman’s Guide to Jerky Flavor Intensity”.

All bag categories are covered with this bag. There is a great blurb printed on the bag describing this classic recipe flavor, and Kingmade Jerky.

Excellent (10/10) – Bag Rating

It is BY FAR above and beyond ANY jerky on the market today!! The meat texture is very gratifying when it comes to being able to chew. It almost dissolves in your mouth. Flank steak instead of any other meat makes this jerky so very tender. The flavor is superb !! and nutritious aspect rates way above any other jerky I have seen on the market today. All-in-All if you are looking for a healthy meat snack product, Kingmade Jerky is most definitely the one to chose. Try it and you will not be disappointed !!
