Saturday, July 22, 2017 1 Comment

4 Seasons Jerky - Jalapeno Spice Beef JerkyThe next review for 4 Seasons Jerky will focus on a 2 ounce/56.7 gram bag of their Jalapeno Spice flavored beef jerky. This flavor is described as green with spice and everything nice! The owner, Thom Le, which is short for Thomas, kindly submitted this bag of jerky for review.

This 4 Seasons Jerky brand name is distributed under the same name of 4 Seasons Jerky, and they are based out of Highland, California. Thom is an avid outdoorsman, and started making homemade jerky to keep up his energy level. His jerky became a big hit with his friends, and in October 2016, Thom launched this 4 Seasons Jerky brand. Their motto is “Quality Jerky For Any Occasion, All Year Long”. Currently, there are an impressive 12 different flavors of jerky for sale. Free shipping is offered on any order over $35.

Ingredient Review

Ingredients: Beef, Jalapenos, Black Pepper, Soy Sauce, Worcestershire Sauce, Smoke Liquid, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Red Crush Pepper, Other Spices.    Allergen Warnings: Anchovies, Soy, Wheat

4 Seasons Jerky - Jalapeno Spice Beef JerkyThe beef used is not guaranteed to be free of growth hormones or additional antibiotics. Also, the beef is not guaranteed to have at least partial free range access to graze on grass. As a result, the highest ingredient rating that can be awarded is a Good (8/10) rating.

4 Seasons Jerky - Jalapeno Spice Beef JerkyThe liquid marinade consists of a decent soy sauce, a good Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke. Ingredients lists are not provided for the soy and Worcestershire sauces.

4 Seasons Jerky - Jalapeno Spice Beef JerkyHealthy spices are used such as black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and other spices.

The heat is achieved from the jalapeno peppers and crushed red peppers. Hot peppers are healthy if eaten in moderation, which flush toxins out of the body.

The salt level is respectable at 330mg of salt per 28 grams of jerky. The sugar level is 5 grams of sugar per 28 grams of jerky. Our preference is 3 grams of sugar or less per 28 grams of jerky.

This jerky does qualify to have no sodium nitrite, or any other similar unhealthy preservatives. Instead, the main preservative used is salt. Commendably, there is no MSG added.

Decent (7/10) – Ingredient Rating

Taste Review

These strips of jerky are medium in size, and sliced to a medium thickness. The texture is sort of dry, and does require some effort to chew. There are a few visible signs of fat, and handling this jerky leaves no oily residue on your fingers.

Some flavors that jump out first are light levels of black pepper and garlic. The saltiness is at a mild level. As you chew more, the great blend of soy and Worcestershire sauce starts to take notice. There is not much sweetness present, which allows for a good deal of natural beef flavor.

A delicious mild level of Jalapeno is present. On a heat scale, the heat would rate a 2 out of 5. In the background is a light level of smokiness. Overall, this flavor delivers on the Jalapeno flavor, and is extremely addictive tasting.

A 2 ounce/56.7 gram bag sells online for $4.99. That works out to $2.50 an ounce, which rates as an average price. This flavor is wholeheartedly recommended if you even remotely enjoy the flavor of Jalapeno.

Excellent (10/10) – Taste Rating

This clear non-resealable plastic bag has a label affixed to the front, and a sticker on the back, The logo is mountains, which illustrates the outdoors.
